Fel-Pro claims it's .039" compressed, but I can't confirm that since I only have new gaskets to inspect. The new 17059 and 8519 I have were around .046-.048" IIRC, but I was mostly concerned w/ the bore dimensions at the time I did the comparison.

Another brand of BB head gaskets that were advertised as having a .038" compressed thickness measured .040-.042" when I pulled them off after my last tear-down, so I don't know how "exact" any manufacturer's claims of compressed thicknesses are for composition-type gaskets.

Any signs of brinelling (indenting) around the chambers w/ the 17059 Marine-spec gasket? I thought that was only an issue w/ the 1009 because of the built-in steel o-ring in the fire ring.

FWIW, the 17059 and the 8519s have identical dimensions (4.50" bore & ~ .040" compressed thickness), but different construction materials. I have a set of both on hand and verified the bore dimensions and UNcompressed thickness, but don't have any used ones to check compressed thickness.

Also, according to Fel-Pro's tech papers, their Marine-spec head gaskets are made the same as the race series (like the 1009), except they don't have the steel o-rings in the fire rings.

The fire ring did leave an indentation on the heads and I put em back together as they were...........not a problem.

The 8519s would have worked on my heads. They are the very first ones made.Later ones had the chambers redesigned.Id have used the 19s but with the 12.5 domes I wanted the better Marines.Rocky
