I've done some reading on factory torque boxes. It seems it's hit or miss as to consistancy on which cars have them. From looking at my car it appears it has front torque boxes but not rears. Is this possible? The car is a 1971 R/T Challenger, original 383 4 speed car.

I have a 71 cuda with 383/AT. It only had front torque boxes.

Quote:
Front (only) torque boxes are startlingly common on '71 383 Challenger R/Ts, though their use is inconsistent at best, even on cars with axle packages
Per it's build sheet my 71 R/T Challenger came with 3.23 rear end ratio and 22" radiator.
Were they just using up the remaining torque box stock?

I have a 70' Challenger R/T with the front boxes. It is a U-Code 440-4bbl auto, Hamtramck built car; optioned with both the A36 Axle Package and Hemi Suspension options, both codes are on the Broadcast Sheet.

My 70 440 sixpack 4.10 axle package has front and rear torque boxes.
Got me a NEW Project 1970 GTX 440+6, 4 spd, 4.10 Dana and N96 FE5 (top/bottom) and black bucket interior. Original transmission and Dana - Engine is a service replacement block.
Body has all stamped #s + VIN/TRIM tag and door sticker. Been hunting like all hell to find the Build Sheet.
garage find, only had 41,850 miles on ODO.
