Torque boxes were factory welded in supports in the front and rear subframe section.

They were "supposed" to be installed on high performance and convertible Mopars.

Obviously there are quite a few Mopars that did, or did NOT get them.

They are available from the aftermarket if you want to install them.

Scroll down to about the middle of the post to see E-body pics of them.

Three of the four 1971 E Bodies I own have the rear torque boxes and all have the front boxes.

Theoretically the front/rear boxes were to be standard equipment on 440-4, 440-6 and Hemi equipped E-bodies, as well as all convertibles.

Unlike A-bodies, the boxes were not supposed to come with 340 cars.

However, based on the informal survey here it appears that many big-block cars got at least front boxes in '70 and '71, with the odd vehicle getting both sets.

Just thinking from what I have seen most '70 E body cars with 4spd. and axle package had front and rear torque boxes. As with the 70 A66 (340) cars I have seen almost every 4spd. with axle package had the torque boxes (f/r) and Hamtramck built. Would be interesting to have people edit their post and include what plant their cars were built and axle package, auto or 4 spd.

Forgot to add that the AAR + T/A were supposed to get F/R boxes too
