yep, all I can think is WOW, how the heck would you find a car like that in Peru? all I find in Canada is overpriced junk!

Yes, I was surprised to find such a car here! Shaker Hood is just unreal.

I think Ill just get it mechanically sound, first rebuild all mechanical components before tearing it apart since the car is solid and rust free...

Dont know if to rebuild the 340 to stock specs, or if to stroke it and leave it looking original on the outside....

Or maybe just build a nasty stroker with a 360 and some w2 heads I have and put it in and drive the hell out of it till Im ready to tear it all apart and do the bodywork. Passon 5 speed too.

leave the 340 aside for safekeeping, orrebuild it back to stock to putit in when Its all nice and pretty once again.

One thing for sure, Im taking this baby on a roadtrip to argentina, back and forth! Kirby Allen is invited!

wait those are not enough beers for such a roadtrip.

Thats probably the best find I've seen in a long time. I think its better than a 71 Hemi Cuda. Can't beat a 340-4spd 71 cuda.

engine stamping....its numbers matching still!!!

Where is this stamp at? It looks like it is below the driver's side head where engine assembly info should be (not vin#).

I just replied to your email with where to look. in addition to being in the wrong place, that is not a factory font. Are there other numbers on the pad?

No that is not the normal place for a VIN stamp on a small block, the area your VIN is stamped is the area that engine assembly info is typically stamped. The VIN stamp should be on the passenger side above the oil pan rail just below the block drain plug (see pic).

All that said I have a good feeling yours is original, there are other detail clues I can see on your engine that look right, and as you know, there are often some oddities with export cars.

*Is that Patricias old car? Cool that you got it, that's a GREAT car!

yes u guys are right, I got confused and looked for the number there first since thats where I usually look on the small blocks to check out the displacement when Im buying junkyard motors....and since I found it I didnt bother looking anyplace else....duh...my bad.

But yes, Im pretty positive its the original 340....ill have to confirm it as soon as i get a chance to crawl under the car!

Yes, its that car.

That's so awesome, congrats!

During a trip to Peru in '08 I saw a handful of Mopars - both operating and derelict. A '70 Coronet in a field outside Juliaca, a '67 Coronet parked on a street in Lima, a number of 75-77 Dodge sedans used as cabs in the Nazca and Camana areas.

My oldest son wants me to take him along the next time....

How in the HELL do these cars end up in Peru? Was this an original export car? And why don't I find cars like these when I visit Argentina? Is there something about Peruvian culture that attracts these cars?

Yes!!! We had a CHRYSLER assembly plant down here back in the 60s- mostly 4 door stuff though...no chargers, no roadrunners, no cudas, no challengers...

Art, next time youre here...lemme know!....If you went to Nazca, you drove past where this car was at!!! You could have spotted driving down the road it if you had been lucky!!!!

You will never find musclecars in Argentina because they could not import them, they had a big car mfr industry down there and they banned import of cars or just taxed the hell out of them in that period to promote domestic car sales.

We had quite a few of these because back then we could import them, and there were people that could and would buy em.....just to give you an idea....out of the 35 original 1965 350-RShelby Mustangs that were made, 5 were shipped over to Peru to race!!! Google it.

Domingo, from your posts you sound like a five year old in a candy store. And I love it!!! It's so refreshing to see someone in the hobby with a bubbling passion for cars like you have. This couldn't have happened to someone more deserving. Enjoy!
