I have a gated style on the Rampage and a ratchet on the race car... wish I would have got a ratchet for the Rampage(I might change it).. both are B&M shifters.. the ratchet is much easier to use but the gate one I bought looks better(for a street rod)

I had a TA Cheetah gated shifter and hated it. I lost the 4th round just 3 weeks ago pulling from 1st to 3rd, I've done that more than once.
I just installed a B&M Pro Ratchet with a Hurst pistol grip, tried it out last week. I love it, no way you can miss a shift. But some swear by the TA shifter, you need to find a shifter that fits your style.

If you asked everyone with a gated shifter if they ever unintentionally went 1st to 3rd, nearly every one will admit to it "once or twice". Those odds are not good for me, as I am sure it would happen in the later rounds which I rarely see anyway. I did win a race when my opponent missed the 1-2 shift and went to 3rd.
With a ratchet shifter, it is 1 gear at a time, every time.

The Pro Ratchet is what I have also... love it..
I use 3 fingers to shift

Watch the video in my signature, that's absolutley NOT the way to use a Cheetah shifter, you are supposed to slap it...But I just have to grab onto the thing, and that's why it would not work for me.
I went with a Pro Ratchet because you just pull it to shift, no levers to pull, you just pull it one click to shift and the Hurst pistol handle makes it that much better.

my brother bought one of those for his T-400 poncho, but has yet to run it...funky lookin thing, but looks like it would work nice...kinda expensive though. If I was to go gated I was thinking that or a hurst quarter stick

for some reason I have heard a lot of guys say the cheetah is easy to overshift or miss with. I have never seen one in person though to look at the construction of it as to why. Is it much different from other gated shifters?

of this issue)... I have NEVER missed a shift
