The tow bar we used a lot was nothing more than a drive shaft with a short chain in where the u/joint cup wold be and then looped and bolted around the bumper bracket, k frame or spring shackle then had a rider in the towed vehicle for braking. When we first built a 2 wheel trailer for hauling cars one guy rode in the car on the trailer holding the brakes for the 70 mile trip to the track and back down the interstate back in the late 60's early 70's. we lived through it, was it smart - by today's standards - no. But we did what we had to do.

I will not chime in too much on this, other than to think about the fuel that would be used for this . . . perhaps it might be a better choice to have one car shipped by one of the car moving companies ??? Or both ?? . . . just a thought . . .
