Broke the sprag like that 2 times. One was a bolt in sprag that uses the stock parts. Those little metal tangs still fold over easy from the rollers. I now have the a&a ultimate sprag as they call it in my trans along with a griner valve body low band apply been running that for a few years now. The ultimate sprag is a more heavy duty peice. Would be interesting to see which one you had.
dont think it was the Ultimate model

Next pass I put a 3K chip in it to calm her down a bit, let go of the button and it launched about 2 feet and ZINNNGG !! up on the 7K chip.
Sounds like the rev limiter saved the stock front drum from coming apart.
A low band apply valve body and a 16-roller sprag (Coan Super Sprag or A&A Ultimate Sprag) will help a lot. An aluminum or steel (not stock cast) drum is a good safety device.
I like the stepped bolts of the Coan better than the A&A plain bolts with compression ferrules.

The ultimate sprag costs about 200 , A+A sells lots of parts also.
If it was just a normal bolt in sprag and your old sprag was not damaged or loose in the case then it was a total waste or time and money, as you found out.

my old sprag WAS damaged .
It wasnt the Ultimate we put back in. I dont recall it being $200.
Wasnt any waste of time and money -- I had to tear the trans down due to a faulty valve body from Tranzact that had me chasing my tail for months .
If you old Sprag was damaged then it wasn't a complete waste of time and money , but many are under the assumption that all bolt in sprags are the same and by installing one that there will be no more sprag failures , which is not the case.
Hope you get it fixed some and back out on the track , put the ultimate or super sprag in it this time .
