I just have a quick question regarding the difference between cross drilled and slotted rotors. Is there any real benefit of having one over the other besides visual preference? I know some rotors come with both of them. And just for informations sake, how do they enhance the braking experience compared to your standard smooth surfaced rotors?

The holes really should be casted in to the rotor as opposed to drilled. They get cracks coming from the holes.

The concept is to release gas trapped under the pad in severe hot brakes. Like after repeated hard stops.

In everyday cruising at legal or slightly above legal limits they are don't have a lot of benefit.

I was just going to say, "Doesn't drilling holes in the rotors create stress risers?" Now since the slotted rotors are actually thinner in some spots than others, wouldn't that be a primary weak point in the rotor or is the rotor thick enough and over engineered that it wouldn't matter in harsh racing conditions?

The slots are the safer way to do. Doesn't really weaken a stock setup. Still not necessary for street car.

So basically it's all for the look.

On a car farting around town that has adaquate brakes. Not neccessary. On an overloaded capacity truck that cooks the brakes, maybe slots or casted in holes would help.

On the racetrack, it could help when done properly. But not all race cars use them.

Unless you're going to be doing road track racing where the brakes can get very hot.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

One added benefit to the cast in holes is lighter weight. It doesn't remove a lot of weight but anything you do to remove rotating weight without compromising braking ability is a benefit.

I forgot about that point.
