That's very interesting .
I have never thought about any A12 cars being built with quarter panel antennas , but we all know the A53 E bodies were, and the fiberglass hoods were the reason .

Yes, the AM and AM FM used the exact same radio faceplate.

I have photos of five more A12's (3-Bee's and 2-rr's) with rear mounted antennas and a copy of a letter dated June 15, 1969 from Chrysler customer service apologizing to an A12 rr owner for the problem with radio interference caused by the fiberglass hood. Then hand written on the letter is "They put my radio antenna on the rear fender" by the owner.

Is the original passenger side fender still around, if so, did it have an antenna at one time?

My T/A hood'd R/T has its antenna on the fender, even though the brochures listit as being on the quarter as part of the N94 hood "package".

Then there's a tech tip kind of document (maybe distributed in Canada) that suggests lining the underside of the A12 fiberglass hood with "aluminum foil" yep "aluminum foil" to cut down the RF from the lack of shielding by the glass hood

DELUXE is typical of MOPAR speakers, the part number on your A12's speaker appears to be 35xxxxx, I'd "assume" it was added as a "rear speaker PACKAGE" at a later date.

might be 2589689 does that make a difference for production? And now I see the MOPAR on there

I can't find that speaker # in any parts books '67-'74 most of the "packages" show the 2427603 number.

No it's not but I don't know of any A12 that can or has proven that it came from the factory with the antenna on the rear quarter. I know Stephen's told me back in the '90's that he had a copy of a factory bulletin showing how to relocate the A12 antennas but again I'm betting it was after the last A12 rolled out of the factory. The letter from customer service was dated mid-June of 1969 and the AAR and T/A being '70 models already learned from the A12's I'm guessing. And all of the rear mounted antennas seem to have been done slightly different from each other but still with the long one piece antenna lead run down the right side of the car. Back in the '90's GG asked me a trick question about the antenna lead; "which side of the car were the antenna leadS run down and how MANY pieces of antenna leadS were used?" I said there was only ONE antenna lead run down the right side.....NOT MORE THAN ONE Then he said one piece is per the factory bulletin so it "leads" (pun) me to believe the is a bulletin out there somewhere

I understand the "fix" was to relocate, I was just wondering if it could be determined if your car originally had a radio and/or rear speaker from the factory.

I'm "pretty sure" it did because of the other options that it had. Options that to me if you ordered them you would for sure get a radio...........car has; power steering, power drum (of course with an A12 ONLY DRUMS) brakes, a clock (not a tach), belt molding, pin stripe, tinted glass all around, Torqueflite, vinyl roof, bumperettes front and rear, Y4 Spanish gold,.......so I ass-u-me it was ordered with a radio and I'm only assuming it may have been an AM/FM but being a Lynch Road car and no broadcast sheet one can only...make things up

1969 Road Runner coupes:
AM radio = 84.6%
AM 8-track stereo radio = 3.2%
AM/FM radio = 1.3%
NO radio = 10.9%
rear speaker(s) = 12.5%

I'd start another thread:
"Who has a '69 Lynch Rd. car with a factory rear speaker(s)? What fader knonb/location is on the dash? How's the rear speaker mounted? What's the speaker's part number & what radio was in the car when new?

Simple! Right?

if I could only figure out how to get the subject title posted that would be quite a feat yet alone the rest of it

My stupid bee has that too.
A little wider shot as reference for the semi-turn this thread has now taken
Was it available with all of the radios or just certain ones?

I can't afford this. mark

Not to continue the hijack but...

Is the reason they moved the antenna to the rear on the T/A-AAR because of radio interference?

Both the dealer data book and the price list indicate the rear speaker (option R31) was available with all radio options.

FACTORY INSTALLED - it appears -

A single rear speaker was OPTIONAL on all non-convertible b-bodies from 1968-'70.
The factory installed speaker was different than the speaker included in the dealer/over-the-counter accessory "rear speaker PACKAGE".
It was available with any available radio (AM, AM hi-watt, AM/FM, AM-8/track stereo); it also could be ordered W/O a radio. (a radio was NOT required)
'68-'70 Plymouth b-body - the fader switch was mounted on the bottom of the dash frame.
'68-'70 Dodge b-body (W/O rallye cluster) - the fader switch was mounted in the switch panel to the right of the steering column.
'68 Dodge b-body w/rallye cluster - the fader switch was mounted in the radio bezel.
'69-'70 Dodge b-body w/rallye cluster - the fader switch was mounted on the bottom of the dash frame.

Any evidence to dispute the above?
