Mike, Bullet has re ground several cams for us. Tim knows his stuff and can "tweek" a grind to best for your combo. You won't be disapointed.

Not getting it ground... having new lifter bushings
put in tomorrow but they will be taller

thanks... I'll know more tomorrow whether it needs
any grinding

Mike,
Mark C. at Bullett is the guy to talk to. I have had several reground on a small baseline for rod clearance. They have always charged me $100 and got them back quickly. poppaj

I have most of it together now... just gotta put the
pan on then prime it to see what the pressure is...
should be on the dyno Tuesday
EDIT
I'm gonna bring my 1050 dom also for the dyno... I
want to see the difference over the 850 thats on
it

I was looking at the lifters at full lift and about 25% of the oil supply hole was exposed

What block is this and what is the lobe lift?

On factory big blocks, I thought the IMM roller lifters were fine to at least 0.460" lobe lift.

Production 340 block with lifter bushings... lobe
lift is .439... with the taller bushings its no
problem now but to be honest I dont think that the
hole being exposed was really the issue... just the
sloppy bushings.. this block didnt have oil holes
in the bushings before so it was never a problem
with oil but when I drilled them the sloppy bore to
lifter showed excessive oil losses... in a little
while I'll know if thats cured

Midway Peformance in Mt. Carmel, PA took my old cam with a wiped lobe and made me an identical match with the exception of the wiped lobe. Cost was about the price of a new cam. They can make you what ever you want. Doug is the machinest there, he is a few years younger than I am. We grew up in the same town. He is a hard core mopar nut, but will make anything for anything. www.midwayperformance.com is their web site.

Is that the same business that used to be known as Midway Performance Clinic? I did business with them many years ago at their Milton store! If it's the same, they must have really grown!

I'm not sure if they had a stroe in Milton or not. I think there are only 3 guys in the shop. The owner Dan, his son (Danny I think), and Doug. They bought some machines though that allows them to do some nice work.

With the taller bushings I dont need to grind the cam

Today was good and bad... I got my oil pressure up...
was at 78# so I'm sure the by pass was working... the
bad... I was only getting oil to 1 rocker.. this is
push rod oiling so it gets the oil through the bushing
then the clearance of the bushing to the lifter is
what actually oils... the bushing hole and the lifter
holes are 90* to each other ... so I pulled it back
apart and checked the one that was working.. that
was also the largest bore diameter.. so I had all
the others too close so oil wouldnt pass... I reamed
out all of them another .0015... cleaned the block
AGAIN...I got the crank back in, cam degreed, and
6 of the pistons ... will get the other 2 in tomorrow
and get the heads on and check the rockers again...
this is a PITA

I feel it will work... its a balance between having
enough and not to much to let needed oil slip past
so thats why I kept the clearance low last time..
I should have done what Sean said but I stayed on
the low side.... he has more experience than me...
at least the one that was over size gave me a clue
what to to..... I'm still learning

It's like when I finish a project and it is ready to run, it just seems to have an anti-climactic moment. I just need to find another project to work on. With the exception of the yard.....

My problem is tooo many projects... my Rampage, a
chassis I just finished up(hopefully the customer
comes for it today)... I have a roll bar job coming
next week, my 38 Ply still needs a interior, got to
get my Harley running again and I have a duck hunting
project I'd like to build... plus I need to paint
a few rooms in the house.. then all the normal stuff
like cutting the grass.... and retirement is suppose
to be relaxing....... LOL

Mike,

I can tell you're a guy that likes to be busy and tinkering on things though. You'll always find something to build one way or another. Where most guys buy the part, you will build it.

You're reaching the light and the end of the tunnel!

Well all the rockers are oiling now... and holding
good pressure... at about 600 rpm(crank) its 75#
just need to put the pan back on and the intake and
adjust the rockers... oh yeah put the headers on and
its set to go to the dyno tomorrow for set up...
hopefully be on the dyno Tuesday... need to gather up
some parts and stuff to take to the dyno... jet box
and the 1050 with adapter... few sets of plugs...
I'll take my timing light also just to verify we
both read the same...I think thats about it

Little change in plans... I think I'm gonna drop
the engine off on Tuesday... suppose to rain here
tomorrow so I dont want to take it on my small open
trailer and my small enclosed doesnt have any hold
downs so tomorrow I'll get some hold downs mounted
in the enclosed... gotta see when I can get on the
dyno ... the other day when I was there he had 2 engines
going on and they were pretty busy... all I need to
do is mount the water pump and motor plate but right
now the paint is drying so I think its time to kick
back and watch some racing and suck down a few brews
