also you need to give a rundown on the exact parts that are being used in this engine. you say it's a 1/2" PU and that it's spaced off the pan far enough. not being a smarta$$ but what did you do to make certain of this? iirc milodon PUs have a raised strip to make sure it's off the pan but moroso's don't

it still sounds like a problem on the suction side of the pump

yea mike i think there's three different "common" ones. iirc stock is the shortest, next would be the one for the milodon aluminum external feed pump then the one for the stock pump with milodon spacer is the longest. but then i think i'm starting to suffer from CRS

Done all that. Even installed another pump. Same deal. The press reg valve has no scratches on it or has it ever nor has it ever been stuck in the bore.

Hutch

Was the pump replaced with a different brand of pump, or another Melling like the one that was on it? If another Melling I'd try a stock replacement, like a TRW or such...

Tried 2 pumps..........same.

Has roller lifters...........

Never loses oil pressure after it gets it.....

Oil pickup is off the pan by .375".........

Car may be posessed? Requires exorcism?

Had 3 guages connected one in the car and 2 from the head oil feed lines, they read the same.

Im thinking something is blocking the guage port feed at times but I don't know what it is.

I have run this thing for awhile when its registering zero lbs of oil pressure and it sounds fine. Its been awhile since I looked at the oil gallery layout so I decided to ask before looking out of laziness.

Thanks for all the replies.

Have you had both valve covers off to look in there?

Well if you think something might be blocking the oil
gauge port, put in a 1/8 pipe hose fitting and put
a hose on it to a bucket and fire it up to blow the
oil out and maybe the obstruction (then look in the bucket)

Had a buddy that had the same problem with his 413 and couldn't figure out what was going on, he brought it to me in the hopes I could fix it with out tearing it down, the car would lose oil pressure but not knock and would run fine. Started looking, pulled valve covers and intake and found that he went alittle over board with RTV sealer and some got down into the oil pressure passages in the block, so what we did was what Mr P said put lines in a 5gal bucket and started it and blew out all the crap that was in there.

so it sounds more and more like it's not losing oil pressure only the indication? if you think that's the case then try to blow out whatever might be in there. that would be a strange one because liquids are practically incompressible and the slightest bit of pressure should show on the gauge...something would have to be acting like a perfect check valve.

certainly need to share what you find to be the problem

Just a thought but some oil filters do not have a drian back valve.
Have you checked the filter for this option.
is your filter remote or at the pump.?

Thanks for all the replies. I have had many suggestions even one to check for dirt daubers as apparently then can make a mess of anything when they are in storage for awhile !! I have done a flow test , no silicone etc. I also went and threaded the oil pump and installed a guage right into the pressure port. When it says no oil pressure it has none. I am planning to just pull it all apart, there has to be a problem in this motor somewhere and I will report back when its apart instead of letting it fly apart.

Run the oil pump on a drill with the valve covers off & see what you find

according to the OP he's checking it right at the pump and getting no pressure, i'm dying to know what this. as long as that pump gear is turning and the suction side is tight there's not much left

The suction side is the most likely place for a problem like this but the output of the pump has to be clear enough to displace the volume of air to prime, not likely but possible
