It seems I have the wrong jack in my car. The hook is actually attached to the jack and I am missing the tire iron. Can someone give me the specs on the tire iron so I can try and hunt down a replacement. I know the correct hook brings big $$$ so I will stick with what I have for now. Something to hunt for in the future.

I just checked out the pics on Nicks garage. Did any jacks have the hook attached to the jack. Perhaps I did not look close enough at mine and it is just in the assembled form

See if it pops out.

Look on the back side for a part number.

Look on the jack mechanism for a date code, either on a rivet end or on the body.

If the hook is truly attached you have a Ford jack...

The Challenger hook is reproduced ...

Do you have bumpers with slotts in them? I thought late 71's got the 72-74 style bumpers with the jack slotts in them.

I've got an early build 71 Challenger and the jack is tube, I'm the second owner for the last 33 years, very original car when I bought it...

But that's not to say a T jack is incorrect, as we all know how production changes were made, stock shortage/overruns, etc...dealer changes, skies the limit to senarios

My 71 Challenger has a build date of Dec 1970 and has the T post type jack. I've owned the car since July 1972.Hamtramck plant. Original jack

Do you guys with the T based jack have the hook attached to the jack unit like the one in the picture?

It would satisfy me just to get a tire iron and keep the jack I have with the car, anyone know a source to purchase one that could pass for stock appearing?

Thanks for all the help,
Scott

Scott try PEP Boys, I don't know if they still have them, but about 5 yrs ago I picked up a stock looking tire iron from them for less than $10...had a good black finish, correct lug size also, looks pretty good

Pull the hook off the jack post and see what casting number in on the Hook. Also take a look at the rivit on the part the the hook was take off of and see what information in on that rivit. It will tell you the Year and month the jack post was made. There were tube and T Type jack posts in 1971 E Bodies. I believe that the post in 35 inches long. Post a picture of the base and I or someone else will tell you if it is for an E Body. Post a picture of all the parts and someone will tell you if all parts are for an E Body.

Scott the PEP boys lug wrench measures 20" OAL, a factory wrench I have in another car measures 22" OAL...so it's very close...

Thanks Mike. Pep boys seems to be the only place around I could find an old style wrench. All the other chain stores just have the 4 ways.

On another note, got a call today that the headliner was in and the seats will be back Friday. The car will be ready to be picked up next Saturday. Now the hard part, I need to empty a garage.
