Concerning the ink stamps being different on reproductions vs originals, I agree, so far every reproduction filter I've seen has had the general appearance of an original but off by a mile on the details. Makes me wonder if they even bothered to try finding an NOS one for a pattern of simply used a later dated logo off something else?

Sad efforts IMO

Original 71 340 filter and clamps

'71's and '72's are completely different than '73's.

I believe most people haven't looked at a 1973 FSM. I suppose that's understandable because most folks are not doing to many '73's...

From the '73 FSM as mentioned above.

It does appear to be on the suction side, but I don't recall seeing it actually setup this way on any cars.

Big blocks are still shown as being on the outlet side.

I never said 71's and 73's were the same? I just posted an example of an original 71 for what it's worth

Thank's for posting this. So the 73's had a 2 piece line as in prior years which presents the question of why not use a 1 piece line from the pump to the carb?? Unless of course they never built them as depicted in the FSM...

I gotcha', Scott, was just making sure we were clear. Thanks for posting those photos as well. Are there ANY reproduction filters that are correct or close?

There are a couple guys selling modern G.K/WIX/Hastings, etc. steel fuel filters which are nearly identical in shape compared to originals, all they do is stamp them with the Mopar logo and resell them. The ink stamps look close at a glance but as some have noticed, the fonts vary. Close enough for 99% of buyers.

My 73 318's filter is after the pump.

Same here, All original (when I got it) 73 Duster 318 had the filter after the pump. 2 piece steal line from the pump to the carb. Filter was down low under the alternator.

Here's the best current reproduction I've seen, correct style clamps, pretty close ink stamp, several date codes available
