Hello everyone, I know this has been beat like the proverbial horse. But, I think I have a new one. Put together a 512 stroker with 440Source stuff. Crank has NO knurl. Engine leaked oil like the Exon Valdese from day one. Started leaking even after primed, before starting! I used the Mancini retainer with side square seals. SO, I pulled that out and put in one from 440Source and their seals. Well, leaked just as bad. I've included a picture of how the seal is installed. I just did a 383 for a friend installed the same way and his is dry. Today, pulled apart again including pulling the trans, flywheel etc. I really was hoping to find a pipe plug leaking down. Well, dry as a bone. (wasted all that time!). NOW, I'm checking the pan. It is a new, hemi pan from 440Source. If I lay it flat with a flashlight under it, I can see light from the rail areas. At first I was using the windage tray from 440Source with 2 cork gaskets, I then bought the one piece, re-usable windage tray pn 555-502001 from Jegs, same leak with both types. Anyone have trouble with the Source oil pans? Any way to "flatted" these out? What about forgetting the windage tray and using 2 gaskets? If this was a drip, I wouldn't mind. But, this is a bad leak at the rear corner of the pan area. I don't think it is the rear seal, IT's leaking too bad! Any ideas?? Thanks!! Jeff

I don't care for stamped steel pans, most of them leak, some very bad. Milodon pans are the exception, you can usually get them to seal. Dollar for dollar the best pan is a Charlies pan or one like it. What I like is the billet rail it is strong enough to hold torque. Poppaj

Can you tell if it is leaking arond the main seal at the crank or between the side seals on the block and seal holder I think the side seals leak a lot more than most people know

Thanks guys for the replies. Cab, All I can see (I even used ultraviolet dye) is a lot of oil at the right rear corner of the pan. I even looked with a bore scope before I tore it down for a 3rd time. The oil is being slung to the right side header. So it's dripping bad enough to blow with the rotation of the motor. The sides of the retainer seem pretty dry. It's hard to tell due to the slung oil. Any idea how to "flatten" the pan? It does "rock" when on a flat surface. What about NOT using the windage tray? What the thought on that? This is a street car, driven hard, but a street car. Thanks guy's!! Jeff

Hey guy's, from the picture, the rear seal is facing and in correctly, right? Thanks, Jeff

Thats the way I would put it in with no vac pump..
with pressure it would push tighter

oil pan should never "rock" I think you should be looking for a better oil pan

Are you sure that it is not a valve cover gasket? Fresh engine w/ fresh glossy paint and new oil it is almost undetectable along the block until it starts to wad-up at the rear corners of the pan/rail.

My experience with the stamped pans is they are never perfect but forgiving enough with gaskets and/or RTV.
