mopartony- I cant belive that aluminium headed small block would be so heavy and weight only 100lbs less than 500cid iron headed bigblock with two carbs...But I need to weight my motor to be sure

You and I are in the same boat. I was hoping it would be lighter. But it isn't. I might be able to get a pic of the tag, but it is in MI and I am in AZ and my stepdad just was at my house this morning before I saw this post. Or I would have had him get a pic of the tag.

Let me look through the ones i have and see if one is clear enough and I will post it.

I found a pic of my motor plate with the tag on it. I have another one coming in the next day or so that should be clearer. EDIT: the pic here is the one the guy I got my motor from. but still 500 pounds.

The one on my motor says 501.

Uoah...500 pounds is not what I expected to be honest. What weighting there so much? Heads are aluminium only block is iron and crank are quite tiny also...

The heads are pretty big, as is the manifold and water manifold. The block is deep skirted with 6 bolt caps. When you think about it, you can see where the weight is. I was shocked liked anyone else though!

I was shocked too that was when I saw the prints and CAD data for the R07 block and heads. Having worked for GM Racing you get to see things like that. But the block alone is like 225-250 or so. Almost mega block wt. That is where the wt is at.

One thing I worked on when I was at GM was wt reduction of the heads. Trying to find a few ounces here and few there. Without compromising the heads. The blocks the teams lightened if they wanted. But that much wt that low, is better then wt higher up. I think I saw mentioned the cars are titanium so add an extra 4 pounds to the numbers you saw.

Yes the heads are almost as big as my Indy heads for my BB. Crazy stuff.

The water cross over is only like 2-3 lbs, not much but it adds up.

If I can be of any more help let me know.
