Just call him and ask.......he is a pretty nice guy based on my meetings with him , and as long as he was sure you weren't going to either cash in on or besmirch his name , I think he would be fine with it. Heck......he might be honored by the tribute. I was admiring John Hagen's Arrow today at MoPar's in the park.......they are very cool cars. I was trying to talk to Bill Golden when they fired it up......sort of terminated that conversation. I'm not sure which motor ( A Hemi , but he ran a 366 , 387 in low deck and a 500 incher when they changed the rules )they had in it , but man........what a BRUTE that must have been in it's day. When it comes to the pint sized cars , I still dig the Colt a little better , but these are plenty cool.
That`s so cool ! I helped John button up the Dzus fastners on the hood of that car when he was at our track . I guy from here use to crew / wrench on that car too. He sure had some great stories ! Any pics ? Chryco
By the way , last I`d heard John still had three small blocks still in the box from Diamond RE , since he never ran them.

I have one pic of me in front of the Sox and Martin hauler with the Cuda on it and the Belvedere on the trailer. My camera is in my work truck and I had to have the Mrs. take a shot of me with her phone ..........I was kicking myself for not having it with me. I hear tales of what is left of John's operation being out there , but haven't seen anything hit the market. He was definitely one of the nicest " big hitters " from around here. Greg Anderson crewed on this car before he went to work for Warren Johnson. There has to be a Kevin Bacon link in there somewhere , but success in NHRA Pro Stock has a lot of local ties and has for years.

Fred, You are so correct.
I know when I started to toss around the idea of building a Nostalgia Pro-Stock, I talked to my dad. He was a factory backed racer in the 60's for Ford. I wanted to do a tribute car to what his team would have looked like if all the internal team politics would not have torn it apart, everyone on the original team worked at Ford. He said the maroon and gold would look good but the colors on the reminants of the team cars in the 70's were nicer, blue and white and blue and silver. He said I could use the name and would right the paper work for permission to use the factory name. But discouraged me on using the name with the 70's colors. All due to the politics and not being sure if the remaining original team member, still in racing and the only one who would care, would want to sue me. So I am sticking with a Mopar.
So I am sure if that person ever changes his mind on his old race cars, I might do one if finances allowed.
I think it is dumb to taint history like that but some people see $$$ and not the honor being given to thier accomplishments buy building a tribute to them. Granted if the car was crap, being used in bad ways, yeah I see an issue but there is a sanctioning body, they run with respected groups and some of the old racers are still there watching or even helping.
But oh well.

Tony , there's a big difference in using a trademark for identity or to somehow profit by duplicating what articles the trademark owner is selling. Don't we see the word Hemi used to distinguish it from other possible engines in many forms of advertisement without Chrysler suing anyone. What if someone came along and trademarked as many names from the past and required it be removed from every car using it ? The racer's and collector's would be jumping off the highest building when contemplating the monetary losses of what now nameless cars they own .

There's a thread on YB now about Bob's Arrow. Billy himself said Bob lost 2 races on redlights that year, and the car was 7 for 9. Not a bad season by any standards.

I hope he has written permission from Bob Glidden to use his name if this guy plans on building a clone of Gliddens car. I had heard that Glidden will sue if his name is used on anything that isn't an original car of his....
like the judge who trademarked RAMCHARGERS. he wanted money from owners of the original cares to pay a fee for use of the name as well as cloned cars but at a different price. After seeing the response on a few forums he came to his senses and changed his mind. Imagine the RAMCHARGERS funny cars at a show and not being lettered to identify it's origin. It would be like tearing a page out of the history book and denying the exsistance of any Ramchargers car. No one should have the right to alter history over a trademark
I Have a little experience here because a friend of mine owns a 62 Dodge station wagon "Ramchargers" tribute car. He contacted the judge who did ask for a fee to use the name but the last I heard never cashed the check. The judge's view was he wanted to keep less than desirable cars and people from profiting off the name. We met the judge at the Hot Rod reunion a couple of years ago, he asked us to bring the car for the "Ramchargers" reunion that was the spotlight of the show that year. He loved the car as did the Ramcharger guys themselves and we were asked to be the tow car for the "High and Mighty" that weekend, there are plenty pictures of the car in the MCG coverage of the event. I know the judge has been flamed a lot for doing what he did but he was very gracious to us and generous to the Ramchargers group.
I don't know if it is good for someone to follow his lead but after meeting him and realizing his intentions, I have a different opinion of him. As a side note, it really amazed me that the Ramchargers for all of their contributions to racing and muscle cars never had the foresight to trademark the name themselves.
Joey
PS I have shown this car for my friend on numerous occasions and it is amazing how many people have told me they distinctly remember seeing this particular car racing at Milan, Martin, etc. etc. and some have even sworn to have original photos. I have always respectfully explained to everyone that it never existed back then but is simply a tribute car. It was at the Hemi reunion in 2008 and if they have another reunion it will be there again.

Jim Bailey has beautiful cars but why put a car/wagon in a "HEMI" reunion when it not a Hemi?? You may get in trouble for misrepresentation. LOL
Since when is this car not a Hemi? Frito my friend, I think you have the Jim Bailey's mixed up, maybe you are thinking of the Jim Bailey who campaigned Fuelers and then that beautiful Max Wedge car is A/SA. This Jim Bailey owned Jim Bailey's Harley Davidson in Fort Wayne, Indiana Joey
