I just took the front windshield trim off and I have rust holes in the corners, I'm tempted to clean the track really good and just patch areas like these with filler, get a quick paint job and start driving.

This doesn't sound like the car is already apart to me.

Drive it!!!

A rule of thumb ,I learned for whatever rust to see---add 50% more for what you do not see and will discover.

My '64 was originally going to be a quick engine swap driver. It's turned into a "complete" resto

Rule of thumb for a restoration. Do your homework. Figure out exactly what the parts will cost. Now triple that figure. Next, do your homework. Figure out exactly how long it will take you. Now triple that figure. As silly as it may sound it will usually be pretty close when you add everything up at the end. Setting a dollar amount on doing the work properly is not a realistic approach. There are too many unforseen problems you have yet to discover. When you do it will throw your estimates all to (you know). I have two 68 Darts in the process right now and have already gone way over budget on both cars. Unless you have real deep pockets you will have to stretch it out over years. Good luck!

Any good Ideas on what to spray and how to get it inside the rockers, frame sections, inside the cowl, etc. My '71 cuda cloned in '82 when I was 17. It is now on the rotissery in my barn. It was blasted last week and I have been welding up a storm with my weld pac 110 volt mig welder. Also I was thinking about spraying the bottom part of the cowl with bed liner (After epoxy primer and paint) in case I miss a pin hole! any Ideas???

I vote for a complete restoration the first time. You'll be much happier in the end. I was going to do that with my Coronet. Do some things to make it look decent and drive it. Halfway through that process I decided to make a rotisserie and totally redo it. Now I'm glad I did, but I wish I would have made that decision at first because I would have saved a lot of money too.

There are many factors that play into your decision.

1) What are you going to do with the car?

2) Do you get REAL hung up about how your car looks?

3) How much money do you have to spend on the car?

4) Are you willing to spend more than the car is worth to get it the way you want?

5) Would you be happier selling the one you have and buying one that is already in the condition you want.

6) How much work can you do yourself.

7) etc..etc..etc..

I have owned this car for about 4 years or so and started a complete teardown restore about 2 years ago. I have been restoring the pieces as I take them off and this is the current condition of the car. If I can find an empty hour in day to get something done to the car then I do it. I hope to be done in 2 more years at the current pace. Good luck with your decision.

Joe
