Dear all,
I am close to decide what brakes I will buy for my new 65 Dodge Coronet.
Will be a SSBc Kit (11.25”x0.813” rotors) or the Disc-O-Tech-Swap with Wilwood calipers.
In the D-O-T article the Wilwood Caliper 120-5094 is mentioned but it seems that these ones not
available anymore. Summit recommends the substitute 120-6815 but they are only for rotor width
up to 1” width so 120-6815 would be better as these calipers are good for up to 1.27” rotors.
It seems there are also other calipers from Wilwood like the 120-5083. That one looks way stronger,
but will it fit with the AR brackets for the D-O-T swap?
Can anybody clarify this? Would be useful for lot of people as the article from Rick E. seems a little bit
outdated (just caliper numbers).
AndyF mentioned also some calipers from Wilwood with dust seals but they are more expensive.

Thanks!
Dennis

You might want to look at the PBR rotors, they came factory on Mercedes and other high end vehicles. There should be several that will fit a 1.25 rotor. Also Baer has several that should fit your project. Tim

The AR000 kit uses the 120-6815 calipers these days. Wilwood changed the part numbers a few years ago.

For street use I'd recommend the AR291 kit which uses the radial mount 120-7381 calipers. The 120-7381 calipers are more rigid than the ear mount design and they have the weather seals. They are more expensive.

Here is a picture of the caliper for the AR291 kit. The radial mount design is superior to the old ear mount design. Also notice the weather seals on the pistons.

Thanks a lot! But the 120-7381 caliper seems to be (according to Wilwoods site) for 1" thick rotors only?
Do any 11,75" rotors with 1" thickness exist? i do not want rotors smaller than 11,25".
the car will be driven on the Autobahn with 130mph

ps: Andy, really like your books! lots of info there for B-Body newbies!

All B-body 11.75 rotors are 1.0 inches thick. C-body rotors are 1.250 thick.

The 11.75 x 1.0 rotor is as big as you can get to fit behind a 15 inch wheel. If you want a thicker rotor you need to step up to a 13 x 1.250 and a 17 inch rim.

It would be possible to custom build an 11.75 x 1.250 kit using Wilwood parts, but nobody that I know of sells a "bolt on" kit like that. Most of the vendors sell fairly wimpy brakes in the "bolt on" category.

As to your earlier point about the Disco article having outdated part numbers. That is correct, that article is more than 10 years old and the vendors have changed numbers and dropped parts. It is probably time for Eberg to update that article. I can provide him with all of the new info when he is ready to do an update.

My B-body book has all of the current information in it. It was written last year so everything is fairly up to date. I'd recommend reading the brake section in it to get you up to speed on what is available.

So who makes a mount for these type of calipers, I have made mounts on my truck, but they were the other mounting style.

The mounts are in the kit mentioned above. AR291 is the kit from Mancini Racing that hangs the radial mount Wilwood calipers on a factory 11.75 rotor.
