The first pic is Eddie Lukas' Aspen - built by Carton. Eddie used to race a SS/AA Hemi Dart by the name "Over the Hill Gang" out of NJ - he is now in FL. I belive Jim Kinnett's first Volare was a re-skinned Duster (former Charlie Castaldo's "Fun City Flyer" P/S). I too have heard rumor that Glidden was supposed to get a Volare. The Detroit Volare (in it's original form) I still consider one of the baddest street cars ever. This car was supposed to have been built by Mike Fons (Motown Muscle) originally for Chevy racer Paul Mecure (this is what I heard) for M/P, Comp or something -fell through. Mark J 1968 Hemi S/S Registry
I remember that car, one of it's first magazine features when it had the blown Hemi. One article it was in was captioned "Black & Blue" and another was something like "9 Seconds over Detroit". Cool car!

I could have bought that very EXP for 12k rolling, didn't, it is a S/G car here in ohio now..
I am almost sure, mopar racer Bob Marshall bought this car from Glidden and raced it locally before selling it. All the while still racing his Dodge Material 65's.

Here is a pic of Zeedyk's Volaire. He won A/A with it at Norwalk in the early 80's. Not sure were it came from, but I believe he traded his 68 SS/AA Barracuda for it. He started Zeeker and had or sponsered many cars in the day.

He did have a 340 Volare going together, but the deal with Chrysler went sour before long, and he ended up back in a Ford Fairmont. The Volare ended up going to Jim Kinnett, and got a Hemi instead. I believe the car went to Steve Bagwell after Kinnett quit.

The black car was owned by Van Smith of Mcnichols plating in Detroit. early on it was a back halfed car. It sported a blown Hemi and later a nitroused B-1. The car was overhauled w/the purple anodizing by the late Steve Grebeck. He also drove it a few times in pro street. I believe it eventually ran high 7second range. I had a opurtunity to ride in it on the street one Saturday afternoon. This was before the remake but it was still a solid low 9 car. It was pretty entertaining riding in the back between the 2 back roll cage tubes. Doug
Is this the same car that Larry Turner owned for a while?

I don't know who owned it before Van. The 1st time I saw it there was a blown hemi in it. After (and during my test ride) it had a Koffel B-1 w/spray. Steve Greabeck built a full chassis for it in its last form. Very cool car. I believe the car that was going to be Bob Gliddens is owned by John Gray, he is a member here. Doug Doug
