Very few of those questions can be answered. I'm sure a couple of the f-body cars are in secret hiding, waiting to be snagged. My car and the magazine article cars are the only ones that I really know any info on. Getting old racecars out of hiding is like a secret society/playing cards. Nobody shows their hand. If and when they appear, people will get the stories.

If I remember correctly, the Lambeck Volare was driven by Randy Humphrey in '79 and beat Glidden's Arrow that year. Mile High Nationals? Can somebody confirm?

I can't see all of the photos posted in this thread, but wasn't there also a deep purple Volare or Aspen former Pro Stocker running around the streets of Detroit back in the late '80's, owned by two brothers? I think they even tried running some of the fast street car shootouts for Hot Rod magazine. It had a bunch of gold anodized parts also.

I could have bought that very EXP for 12k rolling, didn't, it is a S/G car here in ohio now..

Poppa J.,

That EXP of Glidden's is sitting in a garage about 1/2 mile from my shop in Groveport Ohio.

Bob Glidden's on record saying that the EXP was the WORST car he ever drove.

Black with purple trim?? I'm not sure it was ever a prostocker.

Daisy, my man, thanks for digging up what you did, I never realized that there were that many to begin with. Had me all worked up

Myron, Randy did win the Mile-Highs that year, IIRC it was significant because it was the only final round loss all year by Mad Dog with his Fairmont.

1978 ??

I remember reading about a Volare or Aspen Pro Stocket that Glidden went nuts over, like he was amazed at the car, seems it was built in ' 7/8 Scale', like they did some super aero job on chopping some width and height out of the car...I want to say Emil Ekroth, some reason that name sticks in my mind, like he might have bought it and ran it in Super Gas with a Big Block Chevy...

The black car was owned by Van Smith of Mcnichols plating in Detroit. early on it was a back halfed car. It sported a blown Hemi and later a nitroused B-1. The car was overhauled w/the purple anodizing by the late Steve Grebeck. He also drove it a few times in pro street. I believe it eventually ran high 7second range. I had a opurtunity to ride in it on the street one Saturday afternoon. This was before the remake but it was still a solid low 9 car. It was pretty entertaining riding in the back between the 2 back roll cage tubes.

I remember years back there was a brown metallic Aspen with a blown hemi & IIRC Lenco running around the streets. Then there was a candy purple Aspen(not black) with a big nitrous Hemi/Lenco/tube chassis that appeared around '92/'93 then disappeared.

My first Mopar race car was an Aspen, always had a soft spot for them....

The first pic is Eddie Lukas' Aspen - built by Carton. Eddie used to race a SS/AA Hemi Dart by the name "Over the Hill Gang" out of NJ - he is now in FL. I belive Jim Kinnett's first Volare was a re-skinned Duster (former Charlie Castaldo's "Fun City Flyer" P/S). I too have heard rumor that Glidden was supposed to get a Volare. The Detroit Volare (in it's original form) I still consider one of the baddest street cars ever. This car was supposed to have been built by Mike Fons (Motown Muscle) originally for Chevy racer Paul Mecure (this is what I heard) for M/P, Comp or something -fell through.

Many dont realize how much the f-body cars were raced when new and the years shortly after....

I got all my glass parts (doors.hood, deck, fenders in the early mid 80-s and I know there is still alot around...but just dont know where....
