That calculator was pretty cool..My modor is out of steam at 6400...So I put in my 31" tires,130 mph ..It came out to 4.54-1 gears..

I went from 4.30's to 4.56's in my old 9 second DartSport(at the time of the gear change it was in the 10.20's), the trap RPM went up a couple hundred RPM's but the ET didn't change at all, should have stayed with the 4.30's. This was a 451 low deck, Eddy heads, and 590 purpleshaft cam.

I went from 3.91 to 4.30 after I broke my pinion gear and saw no change at all. It is going to depend on your combo and torque more than anything.

Do you guys think going to 4.10 gear from 4.56 gear would hurt my car? my car was going though at 8000 if i get it to go though at 7400 do you think the car would go faster? It made peak power at 7400 rpms

Whats your set up... small blocks like RPM because
they dont make the torque... but you need the heads
and induction to spin it
EDIT
if you make peak HP at 7400 you would like to cross
the line at 10% higher than that

What CI is it and how big is the carb... 7400 for
a W-8 seems on the low side for a W-8 head unless
its big CI

7400 isnt that bad with 428ci... you could use less
gear and might see a improvement

boy not sure i want to roll the dice on a gear change. $500 expence and may very well not see any gain. i now cross the strip right at peak power(6800) so the 4.30 gear should push the r's above 7000. i'll have to think about this awhile.

I run 4.56 gears in my 440 and i thought about going to 4.30's to keep the rpm down.
I've decided to throw my $500 at a set of Afcos instead.
Point being, you might be better to think where the money could be better spent.
