Actually the cars were built on the assembly lines as 383 cars but the engines were never installed in them. They were sent as complete rolling cars to Hurst-Campbell.

I was always told Mr Norms did the eng swaps at his dealer on the 68 Dart 440. I know in 69 Mopar sent them to Hurst and they were built as 383 cars and Hurst put the 440's in and sent them back to Mopar so anyone could order one from any Dodge dealer. I had never heard that Mopar built the 68's as when ever I heard about them it seemed everyone said Mr Norms dealer did them in 68. Thats why I thought they may not be legal but if you are correct then they would be legal. Ron

I was always told Hurst put the 440's in the 69 Darts and were then sent back to the factory and sold thru the factory dealers. I even had a guy tell me the 69 Dart and Cuda 440 cars were not a factory car because he said Hurt did the eng in them. But I told him it did not matter who put the eng in because they went back to the factory and sold thru Mopar. Not trying to be smart but thats what I always heard. Now you got me wondering. I even have a mag with a 440 Dart that says Hurt put the eng in it in 69. Now I gotta find out more about them. Ron
