Paint crowds are like car crowds everyone is going to have their opinion PPG/Omni and Dupont/Nason both have good systems. I have used both brands but I'm more partial to Nason/Dupont brands, no particuliar reason I just know the guys down at that shop better and I have used it a it alot more. Really its just what I latched onto. I have went both ways cheap and expensive and have achieved great results both ways. If you ask me a paint job is more about doing good prep work and finish work more than anything, when you start cutting corners on that is when you ask for trouble. I have also mixed brands (as have many people I know) that had similiar paint systems and never had issues, be it primer base/clear, etc... I have used Nason only on my last two full paint jobs and both turned out amazing. I was mixing using Nason bases with Dupont clears but Dupont is just getting to damn expensive. I have heard that some clears are better than others as far as UV resistance and some do "flow" or lay down a little better than others, but to me its not worth the extra expense, you can cut and buff most minor imperfections. Stuff I painted 5 or more years ago is just as glossy as the day I sprayed it and shows no signs of breaking down anytime soon. Its when you spray the clear to thin that you run into issues with it breaking down under the sun. If your car is going to be a trailer queen and never see the blacktop then by all means use the most expensive stuff you can afford, but for a driver you wont be disappointed in the least to go the cheaper route.

Ok, I have my 68 Charger in media blast right now. I am having a friend help me get the body work and paint completed.
My budget is super tight right now. I am stunned on how much paint has gone up in price. I have gotten 1 gallon of DP90LF primer and 1 gallon of 5 star 2K primer which cost me $503.00 including a gallon of wax and grease remover.
I need to get the rest of my paint products. My friend wants me to us Omni, for which I received a quote of 1400.00. That included 2 gallons of 2K fill and sand, 2 gallons of base coat and 2 gallons of ppg 2021 clear.
I received an alternate quote for Nason products, it was 800.00 for smiliar quantities of primer, base and clear.
I would like my fellow moparts members on helping me decide which products to use and why. I would perfer to use top of the line products but my budget will not allow it. Tim
I've used both and have had good results. First Q for you is this, what type of gun are you using? I'm thinking 2 gallons of base and clear is a bit much using a hvlp. When I shot my 67 Coronet using a hvlp, I initially bought a gallon and 1/2 each. I have a little less than a quart left over of both. Primer, yes, I used about 2 gallons but that was thru a conventional gun, not my hvlp (wish I would have done it with one to save $$). The only thing for me is, I didn't paint the underside... perhaps you are which = 2 gallons then I used PPG and got good results; it's been since 2005 and it looks great. On the other hand, I've used Nason for "quick" jobs and the results came out better than expected. I guess it's up to you to figure out what you want to use, as well as what type of gun(s) you're using. Best of luck!

There is nothing wrong with Nason paints i use chroma base and nason clear all the time on production paint work for regualar street cars . If its a driver use nason if its a show winner i mean world of wheels type show not weak end cruise night show then use Chroma premere. I have seen cars that had crap single stage paint on them win shows at the local cruise night Depends on whos voteing But you can have avery nice car with nason .

When it comes to price, you have to consider the WHOLE package. By that I mean to what extent is the quality of the rest of the car. There's no point in putting top dollar paint on something that hasn't been given a full rotisserie restoration, new interior, etc..
Its a lot easier to upgrade interior and details later then it is to strip the whole car down and repaint it because you cheaped out on paint and body work though.

you don't need that much paint for 1 car.
I suggested to only buy what you need when your ready to use it. That way you get a better idea as you go a long what and how much your gonna need. It helps me have 2 paint stores nearby. Hopefully you got some thing close.

I havent used nason, but have used OMNI, I think the call it shop line now. Anyone, I have to question the reason to use the inexpensive base coat (Omni) with one of the most expensive clears..PPG 2021 is the good stuff. And so is the PPG DP primers. I like the Omni paint, but it is somewhat watered down or thinned compared to the PPG DBU stuff. I will assume you are a hobby painter, so I am going to rcommend something like a Single stage PPG Concept paint or a simple Dupont Imron / Sherwin Williams equalivent. Reason being, the fewer wet coats of paint on the car ,the fewer problems with dust, dirt , humidity and runs. Clear paint is pretty challenging to spray.
