The last time I heard of a competitive 383-powered E-body SS car was Dave Boertman's '71 Challenger back in the '70s. IIRC, it was capable of dipping into the high 10s under good conditions, but that was back when SS cars were still supposed to be running unported heads, too.

How fast is Cotten's ride these days?

His ET in the final round was 10.242 according to NHRA's web site.

I think its capable of high 9.90s but I don't think he's ever ran a 9 at a NHRA event. I think the best he's let it run during competition is 10.13. The Hogans sheet metal intake looks bad to the bone on the 383.

Does he have a different Hogan intake on the car?? Last time I talked to him he said he was going to actually plant a flower in it and set it in his back yard......said he'd had a Victor intake cutup and modified to fit his heads and it ran a LOT better........ but for all I know he may have had another one built.....

I don't have any, but I can get some the next time he's back in town.....I think they're going to be gone for at least another month or so......him and his wife are retired now.....

Yeah, he said that Hogan intake was "a $2,500 garden planter".....

You're probably right Wayne, I haven't spoke to him about it in a long time. I'm usually talking to him about small blocks and trying to learn what I can from him.

Mike lowered the car a little over the winter, this is right before Pomona. He has won round one in Phoenix on a heads up run with another J automatic car so he is off to a good start. Mike and Paula are one of the most well liked couples in drag racing.
