The passion 5 speed looks like it will be a nice unit.

Maybe, but who wants to wait another 2 years and pay $4200 for it?
jamie is saying 4 months. doesn't mean he will make that, but he is completely up front about where he is with it and what he expects.
i haven't looked into this, but i can't imagine any other 5 speed out there being had for much less than $4200 once it is finally in the car. all the extra things needed, and modifying everything that needs to be done to make it fit. if you do all the work yourself, that certainly saves $$, but your time is worth something as well.
jamie's will be a bolt in. drop your old transmission, put his in, roll out that afternoon. shifter, speedo cable, everything fits.
and, this is all done by a guy who has done nothing but chrysler 4 speeds for years and years.
for me, i wouldn't even consider looking at anything else.

I haven't really been following his progress on when they'll be released, what is he waiting for?
at the Nats he had a table with about 10 of the 5-spd units sitting on it, so obviously SOMETHING has been produced...
is he expecting so much initial demand that he's just trying to build inventory, or find a vendor to mass produce his parts?
just curious. Definitely seems like a good way to go, a real, true bolt in OD manual transmission!

i'm not fully up on it, but there is a thread that is up to date in the "new parts" section. but i think he is having issue with the foundry. there were porosity issues with the case, and then just something about the timeline for production.
i'm guessing, but i think one issue is that his is a tiny little order compared to what foundries usually do, so he isn't getting the attention that someone producing 10 million units would get.
fine by me. i'll wait.

Look there are other options for those of you who can't wait for a quality direct fit trnansmission product that will change the way these these old cars get driven. Think about it...a fast old car that does not bankrupt you when it gets driven... A lot of engineering, time and money are involved in bringing a direct fit product like this to the marketplace. If it was easy it would have already been done, made in china and cost only $99.95. As far as price it is what it is, there is nothing you can do to change that. If price is a deciding factor maybe a regular 4 speed or 4 speed overdrive or even an automatic trans is a better choice. Perhaps a moped? Every day there is Passon 5 speed being evaluated & driven as well as other development taking place. The porosity issue was resolved a long time ago. That's a foundry issue, not a product issue and caused a delay in the process. The transmission will not be released before it's ready and it will fit as advertised. Period. Be patient, be kind.

Good, fast or cheap, pick any two.
Quality takes time to develop and ensure.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

Thanks everyone (well, almost everyone) for the kind words. The bottom line is this: It will be released when it is ready. PERIOD! I am not holding a gun to anyone's head forcing you to buy the transmission. Believe me, I would have liked to release it months ago, but things take time. You gotta know, that on top of all the attention the 5 speed program is taking, I still need to stay on top of all the day to day 4 speed stuff. If you can't wait, don't wait! Its that simple. For those hanging in there, it will be worth the wait. Everyone else, I am not gonna hate you or be "P"d off because you chose another transmission. Heck, I may even send you a pack of blades to help with the install! I realize that this just isn't gonna fit into everyone's schedule for every car out there. That's life. I wish it did, but the reality is that it is impossible.

Jammie, curious as to which type and weight of gear oil are the units designed to run.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)
