A 95 is OBD-1, and check engine usually means a a malfunction with an emissions item. OBD-2 can set a light for a cylinder misfire, but it would take 1 big crack to leak enough compression to cause a misfire.
Yes, Hughes makes an improved casting that also has press-in seats (OEM is induction hardening of the cast-in seat).
EngineQuest also has the same head, there are a few places on Ebay that sell the cheaper replacements (meaning, all stock valves, springs, etc). Look for 'Clearwater', IIRC.

I currently have three 5.9L Magnum engine powered Dodge Ram 2wd Trucks (a 1999 1500 with 255k, a 2001 1500 with 160k, and a 2001 2500 with 175k). Likely all of them have cracked heads and all three trucks run fantastic. No loss of power, no smoke, no coolant loss. I also run a carbureted 5.9L Magnum engine in a Duster and it too has the original heads (engine was from 2000 Dodge Ram Van 2500 with 130k). I do have a pair of Mopar Performance R/T iron heads, and Mopar Performance Magnum aluminum heads that will eventually make their way on to a couple of the above vehicles.I bought the MP heads years ago, so that may actually never happen.

mine had 1 crack, my machine shop pressure tested the head and it was fine. no loss of coolant, and no burning of coolant. id imagine 75% of magnum heads are cracked somewhere. if it hold pressure, use em.
I'm u say that one head has a crack, then it was presure tested with no cracks so were was the crack?

They do crack between the valves but the crack seems to dead head into nothing and not leak. The cracks usually (almost always) show up on a magnaflux or zy-glo test but almost always pass a pressure test(actually never seen one fail). That shows they are there but doing no harm.

has a crack, between the valves. doesnt leak any coolant. doesnt effect performance in any way. most heads that are cracked are easily visible with the naked eye after a good cleaning. if there cracked, get them pressure tested, and if they check out run em.

anyone running cracked magnum heads? To the O/P, almost everyone running a truck with a 5.9 V8 has cracked heads that don't hurt anything (whether they know it or not). Not usually a fatal flaw. If there is no white smoke or coolant loss, there is no problem.

The cracks tend to be very small, sometimes impossible to see when you know where one is located. Even if not filled in with carbon (unlikely) the effect on leak-down would be close to zero, much less than ring end gaps.

I agree somewhat with what your saying but over time the exhaust valve side of the crack will burn the valve face and show up as a mis-fire. It's just a matter of time. And yes magnum heads are famous for this cracking problem, it is a thick part of the casting between the seats and it will in time cause problems with valve sealing.

I have never seen a cracked head cause a problem on a magnum motor and I have worked on tons of them. As for the head gasket/crack aditive you should definately NOT use it. I have seen it plug heater cores and radiators.
