Every summer I spend 6-8 weeks in Montana. When I leave for the season, I prepare my dirt bikes for ten months of non-use by filling the gas tanks and adding some Stabil. Then I shut the fuel valve, start the bikes and run all the fuel out of the carb. Each season when I return the bikes start up pretty easily- they may drip gasoline for a few minutes until the gaskets get saturated, but this system works well.
My 70 Challenger (Holley carb) throws an absolute hissy fit if I don't run it every week. So, I'm thinking, wouldn't it be a good idea to do the same thing on the Chally- put a valve between the fuel pump and carb. When I leave for Montana, I could close the valve, run the carb dry, etc. Am I missing something? Does anyone make such a valve? Also a cheap anti-theft device. Someone jacks your car, they would only get a short distance.

I have a fuel shotoff/filter combined on my street car, it is a Aermotive brand with #10 AN fittings on it.I'm not sure if they make a smaller one that would work but I have heard of hot rodders using a electric solinoid valve to shut the fuel off operated off of a hidden switch as a theft deterent device

The 318 from my Mom's '86 Fifth Avenue has a solenoid operated fuel shutoff mounted on the stock carb. So it can be done. I'd think about using a ball valve rated for gasoline. Quarter turn and that's it.

I must be lucky I never use anything when storing anything. Except make sure the tank is full. Never had any trouble starting any of em. Make sure the carb and battery full of gas and electricity when attempting to start and they fire off no hitch. Some have sat for years. My opinion is companies like stabil are just selling fear. OK here it comes

I have mechanical Aptitude.
I can screw up anything.

The problem with storing cars for extended periods is todays gasoline. It has alcohol in it. This attracts moisture. If your tank is not full, is allows more moisture to be drawn in and condensate. Stabil helps keep the gas from seperating, but not so much for keeping out condensation.

I used a ball valve on my race car. Turn fuel flow off when ever I parked the car for any length of time. I have seen fuel siphon into the carb and past the needles flooding the crankcase with raw gas. Luckily I check the oil before firing or there could have been a problem.
