Anyone got plans to build something like this or a better mouse trap than the one offerd by US Car Tools. I would buy form US Car Tools but $400+ shipping seems kinda steep. Maybe I'm just cheap!

That unit is a really nice piece. John did a great job with it but I understand the budget restraints some of us have.

I made a post a while back asking about removing K members/drivetrain from the bottom. There were some great dolly ideas on that post.

Here's the stand i built a few years ago from scrape metal and casters. I use it all the time around the shop.

Our shop has a couple of these. The scissor jack allows the angle to be changed.

The US Car Tool unit has a lot of individual pieces with holes, bolts etc.. All this adds up to labor which = $$$. In addition, casters to take the necessary weight aren't cheap. And I'm guessing the parts are all powder coated. Simply put, its a great looking piece but has a load of unnecessary stuff to drive up the cost. My guess is that they figure the detachable parts make a smaller package to ship but in reality the unit is probably heavier than the dimensional weight so all that is for naught. If I couldn't build and sell a bare bones version of that for under $200. I'd be shocked.

I made mine in like 2 evenings from some scrap I had...

It doesn't come apart for storage but is kinda flat and is hanging on the wall out of the way.

Nice set up, I notice on most of what is shown the K sits directly on the gig and there doesn't seem to be any padding. Doesn't it scratch the fresh paint?

If you look close... I had some cut rubber hose zip-tied to the "pedestals" for protection.

I love it.... I have a 8' 4x4 sitting my garage now. All I need are some quality casters.. Luckily, I have my '69 Charger 500 I can use as a height template to see where my k-member & rear tranny crossover support need to be positioned in space...
