i think out burnout pits are boreing. atleast the guy driving the car is sort of having fun.
i do think doing a killer burnout is a art form though. not the ones in the watertraps. i love doing rolling burnouts on my zx12. i usually pullout in first like i am not doing anything and then slam 2nd and lite it up
i feel held back on the car but i do not want to be that guy that busts his trans on the starting line

what i don't get is how a tire has that much rubber on it!

with all that smoke and rubber flying off of those tires, i figured they would blow in about 30 seconds. but that was a couple minute burnout, and i don't think either of the tires blew...

... that car didn't have any of the proper safety equipment on it to be driving it like that. That clown is lucky nothing got tossed into the crowd.

if you were concerned about safety equipment, check out what passes for OK to compete in this competition. check out from 1.35.

You are only seeing one side on the story. you tube also has a posting of the qualifying run this guy made, and shows the fire marshal wave off a tow truck, and then allow the driver to start his car , and points to the exit. At which time the driver exits the field AND is handed a QUALIFYING ticket for the main event.

He then is allowed into line, and waits for two hours in queue, while waiting his turn to run. Then at the very last moment, as he is ready to go, they decide to say he is disqualified.

As for his actions after the run, he was not violent, until the security guard came up and began pushing him (The same guy the kicked his car at the beginning of the footage).

It could have been handled better by both parties, but anyone in security or crowd control needs to have better self control.

that guy was a d--khead for his behavior, but then again he sure knows how to do a burnout with control. pretty impressive. seeya.

What control? Look at the video - His rear quarter panel hit the guard rail after the first loop.

No that 1/4 panel damage was there prior to this video. He did contact the guard rail earlier in the week, when he supposedly disobeyed the fire marshal.

You asked if it's a art? I don't think so, but some cars take a lot of skill and practice to do a good burnout.
In a blown top alcohol dragster, the throttle is only cracked open a little. I try to keep it around 9000-9200 rpm. Clutch don't lockup until 8800. If I get it to 9900 rpm I will break inner valve springs. The total throttle travel is something less than 2" and I am on it about a 1/4" during burnout. It very difficult to do a steady rpm burnout, real hard. If I was to pump my petal like the driver was in the burnout contest video my motor would hydralic.
When you first start your burnout you must goose the throttle so the car jumps up on the tires and then you have to ever so slightly feather that throttle on a blown hemi at 9000 rpms. I shift the car out on the track at 9600-9800 rpms and if I'm ..1 or 2 tenths of second late on my shift I have seen 10600 rpms and decreased rod and spring life. It's so easy to over rev one of these cars on the burnout and cost yourself a couple grand because of reduced part life.

That makes even more sense why they were trying to stop him from going - because he had already LOST CONTROL and hit the guardrail once.

dude you seriously need to go to one of these types of events. hitting the barrier is not uncommon, it rarks the crowd up & you get points for it.
