I have no access to the rules for both classes and both years - so my comment is also a question -
What I have an issue with is that AFX by its very existence meant modifications to the wheel base, track, chassis etc could go way beyond even what the 68 SS Darts were specced to.
As a result - I'm willing to bet those T Bolts were far more radical in overall race spec than a HURST Dart raced in 68 SS.
Anyhow - its not a big deal - I just thought expecting any AFX car to be included in pure stock was fanciful......

The second paragraph states the reasoning for the '64 and '65 Hemi cars not being allowed to play. It is not having a warranty that keeps them from playing.

As far as "no warranty, no play", with all due respect...... that is simply a "convenient decision" drawn up to keep the Chebs competative.
Its a cynical decision which most MOPAR people are accustomed to seeing from ruling bodies who are scared that Chrysler will chase the opposition away.
Nothing personal - but the "warranty" rule is complete garbage.

Tom I agree 100%...If ZL1's are allowed, so should this! This was sold to the general public and driven as a regular car...If fact, this particular car had some engine issues and the factory covered it...under warranty!

Yes, I know. Hence the "H" in SS/AH… I think the idea would be to go back to the SS/AA format. But to be competitive a SS/B car would need to be able to loose on the order of 500 lbs. and I’m too lazy to dig up a rule book to find the weight breaks.

The 64's should be allowed, peroid.. Back to the original post a 70 Hemicuda went 11.62 and Jim Key's 67 Hemi R/T clicked off a 11.68. The traction the first day was terrible, the pass inside Key's car shown in that bunch of video's was with me driving. We couldn't get down the track at all so on that particular pass we decided to try a second gear launch as a hail mary, it didn't work. It's funny how many idiots think there's a tricked up powerglide or something going on. With that said i don't know how much more Bob can squeeze out of his hyd cammed 70 Hemi, it's running real strong and that was only the second race for Keys, next year the owner of that wicked fast 68 Firebird Rick Mahoney will be sporting a 68 Hemi Road Runner and i'll be there with a 68 Hemi Super Bee. With the solid cams, light weight, and overhang the 68 Hemi B-body's is the sharpest "legal" tool in our shed. It might take a year or two but maybe the L88's won't win every race? We are NOT on equal footing with the GM's we should be racing LS6 Chevelle's and stuff the L88's should be racing the 64 Hemi Belvedere's and Darts/Barracuda's.

I was looking at the rear wheel hp and weights in last month's Hemming Muscle Car mag. It is interesting as the L88 is about 3400 I believe and the Hemi Cuda was 3750 or somewhere around that. The L88 has a good 300 lb advantage on the Cuda and almost 600 lbs on Keys Coronet R/T. And of course the Hemi cars had more rear wheel hp. To bad they are not the same weight as the L88's as that would make it very interesting. Ron

I remember about a 3 year peroid in FAST where everybody including myself thought a corvette couldn't be beat.

His motor just got off the dyno at Ray Barton's a week or so ago. IIRC, the current Pure Stock record is a L88 with a 11.54? Shouldn't be a problem with the dyno numbers they where making. Stay tuned!
Mahoney is a great guy to have on our team, he knows he might be under a magnifying glass so he's crossing his T's and dotting his I's. Once the car goes together he wil test-test-test until the car is fast, real fast..

No on the Vette and No on the Hemi.. My Hemi was under 500 cubes and went 9's in FAST trim, big cubes, balls to the wall the Hemi will rule. IMHO. Pure Stock racing might be a different story because of the reasons Joel pointed. Give the Vette a better exhaust, bigger tires, superior ignition than what the factory supplied it's hard to beat. All the cars would suffer but the Vette would suffer enough to make this class a race, maybe..
