My 1970 442 W30; purchased it in 1985 for $7500.00 and sold it in 1989 for just a little more. 1 of 1542 1970 W30 HT autos and it had some desireable options; rallye pac, hurst dual gate, 3.91's, SS1's etc.
....but I knew exactly what it was....unfortunately a house for my new family came first.
Dave
Hey Dave, Want the chance to own another 70 442 W30? Except this one is a 4-speed.....Black w/gold striping...

Was working in a carwash in suburbs of Philly when a kid from school came through with his brother's 1970 Stage 2 GS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cool car and cool story; was the car a regular GS or a Stage 1 originally? (I'm sure you know there is no such thing as a factory Stage 2 car; they're like SOHC mustangs, RAV GTO's and LS7 Chevelles...)
Dave

I'm glad someone pointed out that there were no Stage2 cars out the showroom floor. A lot of people still get that wrong. Attached is a picture of my 71 Stage 1.
I hear what you are saying and can respect anyone's doubt given the rareity. There was no mistaking it...the car had been upgraded to the Stage 2 Option (heads, etc. came in the trunk). That's my story and I'm stickin to it!!! LOL. This particular family had a stable of muscle cars which was a bit of an oddity in those days.

The one that got away??? 71 Hemi 4spd cuda, sublime with black interior, billboards etc. Fully optioned, IE: power windows, 8 track with dictaphone, Fog lamps 49,000 ONE owner miles or so, Full doc's Time frame 1982. They couldn't give it away at 5995.00, 4995.00 I had just bought an overpriced house in San Jose at 106K and didn't have two pennies to rub together. Not too mention it seemed like a heavy, overweight, over optioned, low performing pig at the time I think they finally sold it for about 4,000 or a bit less. I should mention it was a bay area car all it's life, HMMM NO RUST, SALT etc!!! I still look for it and wonder where it wound up

Upgraded using over the counter Stage II components; sure......but there still is NO SUCH THING as a FACTORY Buick GS Stage II car. Sorry to pick nits, but it's a pet peeve of mine.
I will, of course, be happy to admit the error of my ways if anyone can provide a window sticker or build sheet showing I'm wrong (I won't hold my breath, though)
Dave
To nit pick back at ya, no where in the post did I say or imply it was a FACTORY Stage 2. Simply said it was a 70 Stage 2. Sorry Dave, I'm messing with ya as you are obviously very passionate about these cars which is a good thing. I remain confident the car had the Stage 2 components installed regardless of how it got that way, that's all. Merry Christmas!

fair enough. I was curious as to whether or not the car was a Stage I car. Basically it is either a GS with Stage II components or a Stage I with Stage II components.....either way calling it a '70 Stage II is a bit misleading and I just wanted to point out to those that don't know that they never made one.
anyhow, just having fun and it's all good.
Merry Christmas,
Dave

Merry Christmas,
Tell ya what, I sure miss my 71 GS 455. That car had such a smooth ride and globs of power. Threw in a 3K stall converter, Hooker headers, and a blue printed KB Stage 1 cam, aluminum intake and ohhhhhh my!!! Car also had the dual exhaust outlets through the bumper which was nice feature on that big honking rear bumper.
Another favorite was the Bader vs. Dudek shootout... The firestorm that article stirred in 1984 still carries to this day and the article ran back when I had the GS so I'd lay the Mucsle Car Review magazine in the back seat at car shows...always drew good conversation. The GS is gone, but still have the magazine and the tag which hangs on the wall of the garage

I know how you feel; all I have left of my W30 is some pictures on the wall and the licence plate holder. I miss that car, but I love my 'Bee too. Dave
