Has anyone fitted a modern 4x10 in the center that hooks to a modern head unit, sounds good and does not need any cutting of the frame??

Yes, I used a Kenwood KFC 415C 4 x 10 speaker in the middle. I even used the original bracket, I just had to flip the bracket over and it bolted right up.

Eclipse 4x10 is a no go in the center unless you cut the dash frame.

After looking at some the options you guys mentioned, I decided to trim the dash frame slightly and install some newer speakers on the outside locations and will keep the original speaker for the center.

Thanks to everyone who posted. I appreciated it. Joe

Just be sure if you are using a factory radio, to ALWAYS use 8 - 10 ohm speakers only .
A modern 4 ohm speaker can and will damage your vintage radio over a period of time .

Thanks for reminding me Greg. Shouldn't be a problem for me. I will run the original radio through the center original speaker. I'll use a modern radio for the outboard and package tray speakers.

Thanks, Joe
