Thanks for the clarity, Iceman, I came to this forum back in 98. I have not participated much over the last few years for precisely this reason. No real facts offered, fiberglass vs. the alternative(cannot remember the acronym) ? What are brands or vendors to avoid? What alternatives can provide acceptable results with a bit of work? All fiberglass requires some work. Not everyone wants perfect repros at a high price for a driver quality car. I can appreciate that Mr. Harms, as a restoration specialist, would not find it acceptable, or economically feasible to waste time on a less than top quality part. But when someone is looking for a less expensive alternative and states it up front, saying "You get what you pay for" as the only advice is less than helpfull. Thanks to all for their participation.

If you want "facts" you need to post some details about what you want to know, general questions will get you general answers.

I dont have the scoops made anymore. At the time, they would have been just what you wanted Lee but then others started coming on the market which were superior. I know where you are coming from but if you want a reasonable priced assembly, as the others have stated here, I would agree, dont short yourself on the scoop. It is the most visible part of the assembly. Over the years we have all seen really bad looking scoops on cars. If it were me I would save money on what sits underneath the scoop, even using fiberglass under it if you wish. I agree that ol honest Geans' scoops are about the best out there. Drill out the various bosses, and little finessing to get the grills to mount, and the doors bolt right in. All others you will spend hours on trying to make look good and in the end will still not be happy with the resulting look. You can buy one from Gean this time of year for closer to $200 than $300 if you call and talk to him personally. Dales Cuda shop has the most inexpensive hot/cold doors out there today and they will work fine for you, around $160 for everything. Same go for his cables if you decide to use them and the doors, less than $100/pair. But if you are looking to save and function is not important, dont use the doors, just run the long carb air cable through the firewall for appearance. The grills may be a problem as the best ones, made by Jerome Verbit are no longer being done. Those are the ones Year One carry but are really marked up and they will tell you they are on back order, but I doubt you will see them ever have them again. Snobars' grills are $200+ and again with a little scoop tweaking will work just fine for you. Dont let Gean talk you into using his aluminum grills as they are brutal. I would stay away from those plastic grills seen on Ebay and perhaps even the mesh ones. A friend bought a pair and you should see the warpage after the sun hit them. Repro shaker seals are around $60 for decent ones. So putting decent money in the scoop and scrimp on the parts under it is the way I would go and you can likely do it for less than $1200.
