But there is a difference in the rads , 055 is a 2 core 26" the 054 is a 3 core 26". I want to think it would have the 3 core, considering the 383 cars with 3.91's and 3.55's got the 054, but I seem to remember this being hashed out in the past and the answer was not as expected.

You are correct about the extra core, I am aware of that and also that the 054 has a larger trans cooler. Guess I should have explained a little more. Back in the mid eighties I was helping a friend with his 69 Charger 440/A33 restoration and we had the same 054/055 rad question. This was before the internet (yah, I'm a old fart ) so we relied on our collection of dealer sales books, parts books, and one other local car. We went with the 055 rad but were not 100% sure it was correct. Since then I have often looked at A33 cars/broadcast sheets just for reference. They all have been consistent in that the hemi/A33 cars had the 054 rad and the 440/A33 cars had the 055 rad. I am not saying all A33 were built that way but the 12 or so I have seen over the years have been.
I think Chrysler considered the 055 a "high performance" rad in the A33/440 pkg as compared to the standard 22" one. The only place I have seen reference to the "maximum cooling system" is in the A35 trailer towing pkg however I would think there are other places.

I have also wondered that but have not yet found anything on paper that specifies. The parts book (page attached) lists the cooler for A bodies with 273,318 & 440 engines, and B bodies with 383 & 440 so it is not much help. Several years ago I read that the cooler came with 3.54 or higher gearing. Since then I have paid close attention when looking at cars online, at car shows etc and that has been true so far with both auto and stick cars.

I would think that it should have a p/s cooler on your R/T. I know the cooler tab that holds it to the engine bracket can and does break and they get removed (DAMHIK ).

yeah that's cheaper then the "NOS" or used "A12" power steering cooler off of an "A12, HEMI, Six Pack" on the bag Haven't checked lately but they were going for nearly twice that a while back.
