Why can't I just get a replacement grill (painted and done up right) for my 340 Duster? I'm not asking for the Moon, just want to be able to replace my 340 Duster grill (egg crate, shark tooth type, what ever you want to call it) with a good quality #1 repop or new one like the "E" body guys can. Their has got to be a market for this, others must want them too. The only people that make them don't paint them (from the last time I talked to them (some on here say they aren't much good), and still charge a BIG price for them), so let's say I get one from them (bucks! bucks! bucks!), I still have to have it painted (more bucks!)! What the He-double-toothpicks ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/maad.gif)

I'd rather take the time to refinish the original grille than buy a reproduction and have to go through the hassle of painting it. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif) Painting them is extremely time consuming. I've done mine twice since 94 (used to drive it almost daily in the 90s) and I did the grille in my Twister (beater in the 90s) once too. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) You could send it here. harms Or bite the bullet and do it yourself. I never did mine the "right" way with all that masking. I painted them with the grille silver paint and I went back in with different flat type "lettering" or "art" paint brushes and did the black by hand. Very, very time consuming and probably looks "too nice" (crisp and clean). But that's okay for me.

If you wanted the part painted correctly the grill would cost at least $800. Even though a lot of people would be willing to shell out that kind of coin, most won't.especially A-body owners.
At this point, I'd be OK with that. I, of course want to get away with it as cheap as possible. But I do realize I'm going to have to pay dearly at some point. Still no one is stepping up to the plate to fill a niche I think is out there (and no, I don't have the resources to do this).

Actually most used ones needing work these days sell for the same amount and I think that a repro sharktooth grill that could be used on a 70-72 duster or dart would sell better than a one year only 71 cuda grill. I hope someone steps up and makes them as wel in the future. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/2231195-dggif.gif)

HELLO can't get a new repro or any othe kind of grill for my 71 Challenger E body. Build a bridge and get over it. If restoreing cars were easy everyone would do it.

72, 73 or 74 either. There was one once but they were poorly reviewed and disappeared. I bought a donor chunk of 71 grill and shaved the plastic into acetone to patch mine. Edit: Just went on the bay. There are two listed. One NOS for 2,000 and a repaired one for 700 (reserve not met). Both out of my reach right now. Craig

I've heard that Classic Industries is supposed to come out with a repop.
If they do I hope they get it done right, too many half azzd parts have been made, if someone REALLY pays attention to the details it wouldn't be that tough to get right. In addition, I hope they make the correct aluminum upper and lower trim as well and sell it by itself, MOST Dusters I see could use better ones as they are high visibility and easily damaged parts, plus it's a universal part that fits both the base grille and the shark tooth style for multiple years. We'll see

Don't exactly know. It was talked about on FABO by the host of Chop Cut Rebuild. He said Classic Industries was coming out with one.
I was on the phone with Classic Industries today concerning the '71-'72 Duster 340 Grills. Talked to a very nice lady, Deirdre Mallory in Customer service. She was wondering where I had heard of them perhaps producing the 340 Duster Grill? I told her of this web site and FABO. She talked to her supervisor and he to his. No one knew anything about it. But she is looking into it and would like to keep in contact for a while. We talked for a while about how well these grills would fair in today's market as far as customer need, and volume of sales (after all it "IS" all about the money). I really don't know how well they would sell, but it's got to be at least as good as a B or E body grills out here. 'Course it all comes down to the money to develop, and manufacture them, verses what kind of return they would make in sales. Having said all this, she did seem interested. I think I would go ahead and buy one (if the price was comparable to having mine fixed and painted, shipping, and all the hassle involved), if the quality was very good. Just a heads up for you all. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

I got a call back (voice-mail) from Deirdre @ Classic Industries. Said their is indeed a manufacturing Co. out there looking at/getting ready to make the 340 Duster grill for them (they will be sold by Classic). OER is supposed to be getting tooling ready to make them. When? She couldn't say. Will they be better than the (fill in the word)______ ones being made and not even painted. I think they will as per my conversation with Classic. So hang on to your hopes, I think I see a bit of light up ahead for us A body guys. As for how much, well, you can expect it to be up there. But, I for one am glad to see them (hopefully/perhaps ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/luck.gif) ) being available PS Just another heads up.

I have no idea how much or the actual condition.(this was as close I got to it.) But I know for a fact it can be bought, so whats one worth
It all boils down to condition. Nearly every used example needs a restoration to be usable in a restored car, and that's regardless of the number of cracks or missing pieces it may or may not have. Even NOS examples often have enough flaws to require repairs before use.
My value you guess for a complete unit with ZERO missing tabs, cracks, etc. but in need or a complete paint job, likely $700-$1,000.00. It goes down from there.
On an NOS example (again based on condition) $1,200-$2,500.00

Hard to tell condition that far away. But Scott's about right. I have a grill now, I'd be in the same boat if I bought it. I know, I should just pull the trigger and send it off to Scott to inspect it and paint it up. I started this thread 'cause I'm sick and tired of little or no options for us A body people.

3 years ago I plastic-welded my '69 Barracuda grille myself, reworked the aluminum eggcrate, and sent the pot-metal surrounds out for restoration. The repair / rechroming estimate from Advanced Plating was over $1,700. I had a friend in the chrome biz do them for $500 - not perfect, but nice driver quality. At the time, King of Trim had ONE set of restored '69 Barracuda grilles that was; by their admission; less than perfect. They wanted $4,200 for it. I've seen one side (it's a split grille) NOS on ebay for over $2,000. Since then a company now repops all the pieces, and you can buy both sides for $1,300. This does NOT include the parking/turn brackets, housings, or lenses that mount in the grilles. If you want cheap and easy - get a Camaro. Grilles for those are only 125 bucks. But a big part of what makes a Mopar cool is that they're NOT a Camaro - they're more rare, and sometimes that comes with a price. If mine was all plastic like the Duster, I'd weld it up, carefully mask it, and paint it. It takes some time, but very little $$$. Here's a blog about how to do repairs on plastic grilles: moore's mopars
