You need the other gate; the one you have is WAY too easy to go immediately into 2nd. On a hard-leaving car, you definitely don't want to leave with your hand on the shifter, regardless of which gate you use, but other than that, it's something you can just slap into the next gear.

Anyone know which gate I need?

The shifter handle was spring loaded to go to the 2-3 shift gate after the 1-2 shift when it was bought. I took the shifter apart and turned the handle 180 degrees so the shifter handle was spring loaded to hit the stop after the 1-2 shift and you would have to physically have to move the shifter over for the 2-3 shift. All I did really did was make the spring loaded shifter handle spring the opposite way opposed to when I bought it. hope this helps....good luck.

70076B is the gate you need for a Mopar; it comes with an assortment of decals for gear position. Takes a couple weeks to show up from TurboAction. Summit didn't stock it when I changed mine over.
It's easier with the shifter out of the car, and/or a 2nd set of hands, but not necessary. Instructions are included.

Thanks Steve, I finally found thier site and looked at the differences. Looks like it made to have to push it over rather than let it detent over. Has this worked for you? also has it failed at all since the change?
Thanks For All the Input From everyone!

I have the "good" gate in my Duster, been there since before I got it 17 years ago. Never a problem, it's very intuitive, but like I said, if the car leaves hard, keep your hand off the shifter until it's time for 2nd. The shifter I bought used for my '64 had the same gate as yours does now, so I changed it to what my Duster has. It was obvious to me that it would be way too easy to run through to 3rd, plus I want the 2 cars to work as similarly as possible. I've never had a problem with my Cheetah as far as function or having to maintain/adjust it.

Thanks, I don't know what constitutes "Leaving Hard" but mine typically is in the low 1.4s but my problem is seat time, Hart to learn a routeen racing three times this year, I'm just tying to isolate the things that are taking me out first round, The Car always does its job, Driver runs out of talent early.

I let my son in law drive my Duster with the Winters, Fairbank shifter(the TA are a direct descendantof them ) and forgot to tell him to NOT leave his hand on the shifter You guess it, when he hit the throttle his hand shifted the trans into 2ng gear, when he went to make the high gear change he said it was already in high He wnt 11.34 at 127 MPH, I had ran 10.43 at 128 MPH the run before. It took me a little while to figure out what had happened Ultimately it is the driver who controls the shifter, controlling it properly can be a challenge in a hard leaving car BTW, I love these shifters I've owned, had and driven cars with the ratchet shifters and others after market shifters didn't like them, hard to adjust and so on

I agree Cab. I have no intention of changing, Just want to fix it to where I don't have to think about it. I'm still trying to make myself look at the Tach and shift light, They'r both mounted on the dash right in front of my face but i still find a way to look around it!

Me Too I have made thousands of passes in a lot of different cars that went from slow( 18 second zone) to half fast (low tens) It use to seem that the 12 and 13 second cars took forever to make a 1/4 mile pass, not anymore Now it seems all of them go by fast I'm now forgetting some of the runs at the end of the day I guess that is what log books, recall tachs, data loggers and weather station are for, memory aids Focus, focus, focus, I can say it easily. I find it harder to do in the car now

My last event was at sacramento and I dialed a 10.20 next to me dialed 11.40ish, I cut a bad light, Overshifted and could not catch him and he missed his dial by .05
I still ran a 10.28 even though I reacted bad. Just couldnt get by him. I know I have to work on me but not thinking about the shifter would help!
