were the e60-15 tires available on early 70 cuda`s? if they weren`t-and i don`t think they were then all early 70 cuda`s had f70 14 tires apart from hemi cars. that might mean you couldn`t get 15 inch steel or rallye wheels until about dec/jan. can someone clear me up on this? when were 15 inch wheels available apart from hemi cars. what did the hemi convertibles have as a spare as a spacesaver wasn`t available for convertibles?
all the best
frank.

or aar/ta cars g60-15 rear, e60-15 front

thanx tony-so my nov built 440-6 cuda which has steel wheels in body color had e60 15 tires? i thought e60 tires weren`t availble on early cuda`s. if you`re saying they were then were they the first to have the tire size on them as opposed to the early f60 tires which didn`t have the tire size on them-still a bit confused.
on a side note i`ll be calling to place an order with tony`s parts-great website you have.
all the best
frank.

My Dec 69 Built 1970 Challenger was an original E60-15 tire car
It had the F60-s on it when I sold it because no E60's were avail at the time ( except originals)

both early 1970 model year f60 + e60 tires didnt have the size in white

i believe the cnage to size tires came in late october/ early november time frame dependent upon plant + tire size

december car would be a "sized " tire

Nope. LA Plant

While we're on the subject. Anyone ever seen an E60-15 that did NOT have the size in a raised white leter ?

Granted I only started paying that close attention to tires was when I bought this car.
And I bought this particular car about 1998.
But, I've never seen an original tire that did not have the E60-15 in a raised white letter. And I looked hard for about 6 or 7 years. But I think I found 2 or maybe 3 tires total that were reasonable enough (to me) to purchase.
As I had no interest in paying $500 and up for old tires.

I finally gave up and bought the repop no size F60-15's from Jim Minor( member here) and sold the original E60's I did find.

Bill/Tony-I talked with John from Kelsey Tire for months before he was going to announce they were going to come out with the E60-15.I had bugged him for years for them being I needed them for my car.So when he called one day and told me,we talked about the E60's and how he had obtain 18,if I remember right, blue prints from Goodyear showing all the different letter/number styles/fonts from about '68 thru the early 70's and none of them ever showed a E60-15 without the size in raised white letters.

E-60-15 had the size lettered on them from day one, there are no "no size" E-60's.

Is there a source for this kind of historical information for the 1971 cuda models?

I still have an original buildsheet from a 70 340 Cuda I junked back in the 80's. It clearly shows that the car came with F70-14s and not E60s. The sales literature for 70 340 Cudas incorrectly stated the 15 inch tires were standard equipment... it was not so.

The STANDARD (& ONLY) tire available on a '70 HEMI 'Cuda is Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 w/RWL.
* early in the model year there was a "no size" version, it appears these were "used-up" before December '69

The STANDARD tire available on a '70 (340, 383, 440, 440+6) 'Cuda is Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 w/RWL.
* early in the model year there was a "no size" version, it appears these were "used-up" before December '69

An OPTIONAL tire available at NO COST on a '70 (340, 383, 440, 440+6) 'Cuda is Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 "white stripe".

An OPTIONAL tire available at $47.95 on a '70 (340, 383, 440, 440+6) 'Cuda is Goodyear Polyglas GT E60-15 w/RWL.

The F70-14 & F60-15 are the only Polglas w/RWLs that I've seen in the "no size" version. Both were used during the '69 model year on various manufacturer's cars. I know of NO other RWL Polyglas sizes used in '69.

With all of the "new for '70" RWL tire sizes, some were late getting in the game. One that was NOT available at the beginning of the '70 model year is the H70-15 w/RWL that was advertised as STANDARD on the '70 Sport Fury GT, early cars were delivered with H70-15 "white stripe" tires (yet the b'cast sheets show "U75" for RWL).

The earliest E60-15 b'cast sheets I have are all from the first week of October '69. I'm sure there are some earlier, but by how much? Who has a 15" tired (non-HEMI) e-body built in August or September of '69?

thanx for the great answers-this would have been my next question-i believe there were no e60 15 tires till about dec 69 at earliest. i believe my nov built 440-6 cuda came with 14 inch wheels and f70 14 tires. i don`t have a buildsheet but i have a photo of about 1980 with body colored wheels with dogdish caps but how can i tell from the pics if they were 14 or 15 inch wheels-is there a way of telling if it had a spacesaver or fullsize rim as a spare-i don`t have either-is there any difference in the lockdown bolt? the car is also a four wheel drum brake car.
i think i better start looking for some date coded 14 inch wheels
all the best
frank

There are a few things that you can look at to help narrow down the original rims/tires for a car. 1)door jamb sticker 2) look for red paint residue on the rear drums 3) does it have lower control arm bumper spacers? 4) length of spare tire hold down rod.

thanx for that info-i`m always learning something new-the length of hold down rod and bumper spacers-didn`t know about those-i`ll look at my parts book and see if i can work it out-i could always compare it to my 71 which definitely is a 15 inch wheeled car with spacesaver.
thanx again
frank.

thanx for the pic of the window sticker-t think i can nail it down now that i have these answers. my vin is 192322 so it`s only a few numbers after your 340 cuda. i`d say they both came with f70 14 tires but mine were on steel body colored rims.
thanx again
frank.

I'm assuming that the 340 was a "no cost" option instead of the 383??

In a '70 'Cuda - yes, the 340 was N/C. In '71 it was a $44.35 OPTION.
