Is the black paint job 'factory' in terms of how far it goes down on the firewall? I didn't think any of the firewall got painted black?
No. I don't think so. Scott would probably know.

scott,
when do i get ot see this thing? i want to check it out
Paint is currently scheduled for next week, then it needs to sit and cure a week or two so hopefully I'll have it back at my house by mid October. Since the SPD is October 02, 1970 that's just about 42 years to the day that it got painted the first time!

Are they going to sand and buff it before you get it home?

The problem of getting the details right on a 71 Duster is that so few people have EVER studied the correct details. Most of the restored ones or clones out there have a few to a bunch of changes, add ons, and other non original mods, finding a bone stock 100% original type restoration is basically unheard of. As common as they once were it's amazing how so few still survive with original paint and other details, trust me getting all the little stuff right is a MAJOR challenge with these cars! MUCH more difficult than restoring a more popular car like a Hemi Cuda, etc.
In answer to your question, the only 2 examples of original paint V24 hood Dusters had paint details like Jason's yellow example, it looks like a mask was used but a loose fitting one that allowed the edges to fog a bit.

Thanks a ton Bob, sorry I had to have you check out stuff on a car in New Mexico when the very same car sat in my own back yard here in Spokane for over a year! (Duh! Me!)
You're welcome Sir, and to think I found it by coincidence too

Factory cars never were color sanded so it makes for a tough call.
