I took my 70 Challenger to the race track last Thurs and ran a 14.09 @ 96.74 MPH on the primaries.
Later this week I'm going back and will have all 4 bbl operating. The engine is a 451 10:1 CR, CNC ported Ebock heads*Jeff @ Modern, mild like 245 @.050 cam *Scott Brown, carb is a Demon 850 Vac sec. 3.23 sure grip rear. Auto tranny. TTI headers and 2.5 x pipe exhaust all the way out the back. The car is all stock except for the engine, exhaust , wheels and tires. I didn't weight it last week but will this next.

What do you guess it'll run on all 4 bbls?

Hey Rick! What torque converter? That thing should run very strong when you get it sorted out.Change that gear set. My SB duster went 11.50's@115mph on 2barrels and leaving in second gear.Hooking up the secondaries and leaving in 1st went 11.20 @120mph with lot's of traction issues and no tuning.

I don't know the answer but have wondered the same thing. My assumption is that the engine was running out of RPMs sooner on just the primaries, and the optimal shift point is likely different between the two experiments.

Did you experiment with shift points? What were the incrementals on the 14.09 run? I wonder if the times show the car falling off on the top end. Did you have anyway to confirm the AFR was reasonable on just the primaries?

Look forward to seeing your results.

The converter is a 3000 stall a good one, cant recall brand ATM. The car is primarily a street car and the 3.23 gear is gonna stay. Besides if it goes much faster at the track, will have add a bunch of safety equip.

the rest of time slip is this
60 ft. 2.144
330 ft 5.09
1/8 9.03 @ 78.2 MPH
1000 ft 11.77

No LM1 or way to confirm AFR. I just made 1 pass and let it shift itself. Didn't even load the converter. I'm sure it has a lot more in it, just with improved driving technique.

The Charger will be the race car eventually.

It surely has a lot more in it. If I was closer I'd be glad to lend a hand.

I'd think a driveshaft loop and helmet would be ok to 11.50's. They get mad at me(Gainesville raceway) I make a few adjustments and run 11.50's.

Funny, same thing happened with one of my cars: first time out the thing runs 12.80 3 times, when I was expecting mid-11s. I was mad as hell at first, but then decided to walk back out to the car during dinner and check the carb. Sure enough, secondaries weren't opening (cable maladjusted). Fixed that and the next time out, 11.40-11.44.

Your 60 foot times are the proverbial millstone.
And the secondaries aren't going to give you a ton there.
It will still be a stout street car , but a gear will be the cheapest and quickest way to get that car down track.
Some suspension tricks will give you some gain , but if you don't see a 1.7 60 ft. or so , you will never see the kind of time slip that car is capable of.

That is a pretty-good speed for only on the primaries ..... I think you might be in error on your thinking. BUT if it is true ... the car should pick-up another 12-15 mph.

Then 14.0s, how much faster are you talkin when you say "if it goes much faster", If say it runs 13.0s your still good, just need a helmet, maybe a DS loop, but thats good insurance anyways, you don't need a bar or special belts/harness. I ran 12.5s with nothin but a helmet & DS loop.

I'd say 8-10, I think it'll run low 13s @ 105-107

How was the launch on that run? You indicate you launched from idle....did it spin? If it did was it excessive or light?

With the trans in drive, it likely short shifted, but given you were only on the primaries that may have been what the motor wanted anyway.

No spin at all, Had a pair of MT street slicks on it. The tech guys said I needed a driveshaft loop with those so when I go back will running a set of MT I blocks, and they should hook fine too. I hope Jegs gets me the lug nuts I need by tomm.

Take care,

I would install some good studs too.

There's no way to really know until you run it. With optimal gearing I would think your combo is good for bottom 11s.

I have run several cars with the secondaries disconnected, went from 4 barrel to a two barrel etc., and on average it's about a half a second.

My numbers are below, and here are what I see as the differences: mine is 508 cuin with a little more CR, I have exhaust manifolds, and probably more weight. My guess: 11.60 @ 117 w/ 1.75 sixty ft. in decent air.

Why did you run on primaries only?

Throttle cable and kickdown where not adjusted/modified to allow the secondaries to open. Being that it had only been street driven and was plenty fast, I hadn't bothered to mess with this issue. It's fixed now. I'll be going back to next Tues TNT.
