I had a A&A 727 in my 3700lb, 3.50 geared turbo car. I payed about $4500 for it. The trans was built with the good input and output shafts, billet drum, 5 gear steel front planet etc.... The car was regularly street driven and beat on constantly. 7 years and hundreds of passes of low 9s/ a few high 8s. Had to have it fixed once. I exploded the dif and twisted up the driveshaft. That bent the output shaft housing and rear bearing retainer ring in the trans. Cant really blame the trans for that.
At that output level I wouldnt have any issue with running a 727, especially with a 4.10 gear, as long as you get good shafts. I definitely would not have a trans built by someone with no confidence in it though. Go to A&A you wont be disappointed.

At 900 ft/lbs you should be able to accelerate just fine without the added gear reduction.

Cummins powered rams putting out over 1500 ft/lbs use a 727 based OD trans and don't blow up when built properly .
My 3000 pound Outlaw car makes twice that much torque and our Mike's glide has never broken.

I left out these 1500# Cummins trucks are 4x4's that weigh in at 7000lbs.
A 727 isn't right for every application but it will handle 900#, most people go to the GM based trans more because of cost than anything else .

But how often are they freshened up...just about any trans can be built to last a couple of runs/pulls.
That I can't answer but I know it's more than a couple pulls/runs.

I have a Cummins at 975ft/lbs (125,OOO miles)30 pounds of boost when i leave locked in 4x4 at almost 8000lbs  Trans was done at hts here in MICHIGAN. dAILY DRIVER,tow anything, They wont last to funny
