Has anyone ran a w8 or w9 motor at small ci? I've got a complete 358 w8 craftsman truck motor that came from brad Kezlowski that I eventually want to get into my valiant... I'm debating on trying to convert it from a dry sump motor to a wet sump motor though... Any recommendations on doing this?

If its a dry sump now I would leave it dry sump...

Mike,
The issue I'm afraid I'll have is that I won't have room for the pump with my stock steering and k-member.

That could be a issue... not many places you can hang
a belt driven pump

Are you running it "as is", or are you changing the cam???

Where can I get one of those relocation brackets?

Jim, Brett Miller (W5DART66) put me onto this motor last year. We originally talked about making the necessary changes to make the motor run in the car and run it "as is" and then changing the cam later on.
Is there a reason you ask?

bracket was made by my "crewchief", fits a moroso 5 stage, not sure if it fits other moroso pumps
If you need one I m sure it can be arranged but since we don't have a cnc mill of our own it will take some time

you asked about small engines, I have a 357 with only 3.19 stroke and it did not really perform as I expected, I guess you need to get the converter 100% right or go with a 5 speed/clutch..or maybe I m not smart enough

I've heard there is ET in a cam change vs the truck cams. It's like anything else though, as it depends on other areas.....heads, induction, clearences, etc.

So what's the minimum bore a W8 or W9 head can be ran on?

Depends on the valve size... the W-9 comes with a
couple different intake sizes... I'm at a 4.125 bore
but I wish I would have gone 4.185... I have a 2.18 valve

Comp Eliminator guys will run on around a 4.06" bore in classes like C/ED. They run around a 1.5" exhaust valve with a 2.18" intake valve from memory. I haven't heard of a W9 being run in Comp, but I haven't been paying too much attention to it in the last few years. The W9RP were tried, but weren't really suitable

I run a dry sump and using a bracket the same or similar as mentioned above with the factory k member. The pump and oil lines have about 5mmm clearance.

And just for comparision my w9 headed 410 made 875hp at 7600rpm and 651fbs at 5400rpm.
