My TOTALLY rubber mounted Mallory Comp 140 is so loud now that I can't even hear the exhaust on my car anymore so I'm thinking it's on it's way out. So I started shopping Summit and there is lots of choices but is there a standout among the brands? Aeromotive, Holley black 150, Magnaflow, Mallory, Edelbrock 160 etc, etc....is there any to stay away from?

something to keep in mind is if you may upgrade some day, i first ran the newer holley black and ran low 10's till it quit working, so i decided to upgrade the whole system, what i have now is aeromotive and can supply pretty much whatever combo i put in the car

I'm happy with my Holley black 150. Feeds 640HP, low-10s. It's actually quieter than my old Holley Blue 110 was, but the capacity was my concern, not the noise.

Depends on the rest of your system. If you have a good return system, then an A1000. If you have a dead head system, then a pump that has a return line off the pump back to the tank like an A2000....

On a cheaper note, we have recently run the eddy 160 on two cars, and is alright. Don't know about longevity yet, we will see, but we are running 10's with it.

I run a pair of Holley black 150s and I will run a
single on my Rampage street car... you need to isolate
the pump(like you said) and the fuel lines... it will
transmit the noise through the lines into the chassis

Currently the car runs a deadheaded 3/8" hard line isolated with short sections of hose at the connections to kill noise transmission. I have been considering going to a return system anyways and am not against going to a larger supply line if need be.

Andy, I don't think that the Mallory is usually like this. My brother-in-law has a comp 140 and says he can't hear it at all when he's driving- so I'm pretty sure it's just mine crapping out.

Same here. I went with the stealth 20 gallon cell with internal a-1000. Done...nothing I ever build in the future will tax that.

I have been using a Clay Smith mech. pump for 6 years with 0 problems. Also use a Mallory return style regulator.

Send the Mallory back for a rebuild and ask them to send you a return style regulator. Way more than enough pump and you won't hear a thing when it is right. The return line needs to be at least as big as your supply line but that is all you need to do.

I have #8 to the reg., #8 return to the cell and a couple of #6's to the float bowls.

I have nothing against the Mallory- just if I send it away for a rebuild by the time it gets sent back to me my summer of driving the car will be gone...

You have a Magnafuel 500 and can't hear it? If so you need to see a doctor about your hearing loss. I've been running a ProStar500 pump for 10 years now, and wouldn't buy anything else.

I've seen the video.

Just don't want the OP to think a Magnafuel pump is quiet. I don't hear mine either when the car is running with open headers, but throw on some quiet exhaust, and it's a different story.

The Mallory 140 pump with a return regulator, is about the quietest elctric setup you will find. It's just a matter if it can keep up. My guess is with your current combo, yes it will.
