hello, looking at a 68 coronet 383 auto,  the engine number is on the rail above the oil pan rail passenger side? the trans 727 is the number on passenger or drivers? it is above the pan rail correct? WHAT SHOULD THE NUMBERS BE?ANY HELP OR PIC'S WOULD BE GREAT.THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

 and a auto trans will be stamped on it's bellhousing in the same area, 4 spd's will be stamped on the machined pad.

I agree, my 68 Road Runner with a May 4 build date has the numbers stamped on the top of the transmission housing.

My 68 has the numbers in the same area and on the pad on the side of the 4spd trans. My car built in the Los Angeles plant January 68.

Is the car a "G"-code 383 2bbl, it would NOT have VIN# stamped.
