Bill, personal choice and what I had on my '68 road runner are the Dynomax Ultra Flo stainless. The are similar to the originals and sound good but not too loud..........and they flow more than most mufflers. http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers.php?muffler=ultraflossI have an H-pipe system on my '69 GTX with Flowmasters that the previous owner just had it installed and if it wasn't so new it would be gone for a set of Ultra Flo's.... Everyone's opinion of what's loud, and what isn't,....what sounds good, or great, again is different,....me I like a good rumble at idle,....and a throaty sound at throttle,....try a set of Powersticks on that 440,....you'lll say the he11 with loud, I LIKE IT ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif)

Good question, a welded case will knock it out of the running . Something resonably close to stock appearence wise is a must

The Ultra Flo Stainless that I had on the road runner were not welded and to me were the most like a "Hemi" muffler that was available. They use a "Glass Wool Packing" that is a lot more durable than the old "fiberglass" packing used for years. A company called "Silent Sport" developed it for 2-stroke race bikes back in the '90's and it's the best and longest life packing we ever used on our team race bikes.
I really liked the Ultra Flo Stainless non-welded mufflers but I will say that when I first put them on I was dissapointed because I thought they were too quiet...........until I put my foot into it. Bill I really think you would like them, they are quiet because they are pretty big or long but no restrictions because they are a straight through design....They flow the most of all of the Dynomax mufflers too the biggest plus of all IMO.

Another vote for the Dynomax Ultraflows (which they make in both welded and crimped; mine are crimped).
These sound great; not too much drone like some chambered mufflers, but good healthy sound when you put your foot into it.....plus if anyone cares about performance, these things are the bomb, hands down....they flow 99% as well as straight tubing compared to 40-60% for most chambered mufflers.....guess that's why all the Purestock guys are using them.

That's where I got the "tip" from a few years ago (Purestock and F.A.S.T. competitors) to go with the Ultra Flo's The Flowmaster mufflers that are on the GTX are and TOO LOUD and droney (is that a word ) IMO

Their website shows both types.
Just looked, yes they do have both, the crimped is polished but I'm sure that could be fixed with some steel wool and a little elbow grease.

Tape the inlet and outlet and bead blast them, that'll take care of that shinny finish real quick ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif)
