160 is TOO LOW an you cause much more wear at 160 because the components havent expanded to their correct dimensions- lots more slop at 160 than 180.




One of my shop manuals had a graph showing cylinder bore wear versus temp, and I remember even at 160 there was still a fair amount more wear occuring than at 180. You just want to be at operating temp, not under.
