They were chrome plated finish so the outer rusts (eventually) and the chrome peeled off the center when they started corroding there. Your right they do have an alloy center welded to the outer steel shell and these suckers are heavy....I had them sandblasted along with my stock steelies due to the original chrome being real bad....if I keep them they will get powdercoated Rickster
