not meaning to hijack but why do some of you guys think a 22"rad wont keep a 440 cool.thats how lots of them came when new and used everyday.with a proper system it works fine.

depends how things are set up. I have a 22" aftermarket aluminum down flow rad that mimics the stock 22" rad. It cools a 658HP 472 Hemi just fine BUT I use a solid 6 blade 16" fan, a shroud, 10.3 to 1 compression, 180 degree milodon thermostate, 50/50 mix Zerex antifreeze and stock ratio pulleys. It never got over 190 in the hottest humidest days. I also have all the hood seals and gravel pan in place. It's also a 4 speed. Proper engine clearances are important. A fresh re-build may run a little warmer until things loosen up. Enough ignition timing and proper fuel mixture are important too.

If you run more compression, or use underdrive pulleys, or go on the high side of the anti freeze mix, run with no shroud, or some of the flex fans out there, you could run into trouble.
