If you belong to AAA, I would suggest taking it there instead of the DMV. I made the mistake of taking my '67 Barracuda to the CA DMV when I bought it out-of-state in 2004. The clown working there had no idea what he was looking for, and wouldn't listen to me when I tried to tell him where the numbers were. He made me take it to the CHP to have it inspected. Even the CHP officer didn't know what to look for. Luckily, though, he was willing to accept the information I got from Moparts and signed me off. When I had to register my Coronet (another out-of-state car), I took it to AAA and I was out of there in about 15 minutes. Good luck.
