I had the same problem. I had factory style castle nuts that are quite tall. I used a friends lathe to turn some of the base of the nut off until everything fit fine and used a grade 8 flat washer. There are thin castle nuts out there, you can try a bolt supply company, or maybe even Tractor Supply
