No inner axle seal on a 7 1/4 or 8 1/4. Bearing is lubed by the rear axle grease. Are you sure they gave you the correct bearing. My 8 1/4 has just a roller type bearing not sealed. Here is some good info to read.

Guys, This is what is getting me nuts. The Bearing and seals that you just showed me, along with the 'C' clip that holds the axle from the Diff is what I am used to seeing and what I have worked on. However, I am getting another story from a genuine '68 MOTORS repair manual. They show specifically a 7 1/4 axle and it shows this order of assembly, Seal (that looks like it seals about 6" into the axle Housing), then a Collar on the axle , a bearing on the axle and a Retainer that bolts up to the housing.
Basically it looks like you slide the retainer over the axle, Press on a Bearing then press on this retainer slide the axle into the housing and the Retainer bolts to the Housing and that's what keeps the axle in. There is No 'C' clips in the Diff. Looks like you do not have to pull off the Diff cover at all.
Heck if the seal is where it describes in this Book, and I don't have to pull the bearing off the axle.. that's great. But I don't know who is right at this point
